As I was trying to source myself a new set of FCR's specific to the TRX it became apparent that not only has Keihin stopped making these, but the stocks seem to diminishing as well. Finally I got hold of a set altough with a price.

To cut long story short, I just received an email from BR special tuning in UK with an offer. So, if you are interested in a pair of brand new FCR's you might want to read this. And I know, the price is not as low as some of the US vendors offer, but it seems that there is not that many TRX/TDM specific carbs left over the big pond. Well, at least I could not find any.

This is the mail I've received:

We are trying to get an idea of how many people are interested in purchasing
the Keihin FCR carburettors for the Yamaha TDM?TRX bikes.

Keihin will produce some sets if we can guarantee an order of 10 sets minimum.
We have negotiated a special price for these of £535.00 plus TPS if necessary,
plus shipping.

Please reply to let us know if you are still interested.

Keihin Germany ( keihin.de wich as i understand is an OEM) had no problems at all delivering to me and they also made me the TPS bracket free of charge as Keihin do not manufacture them anymore....it was also a good bit cheaper than in UK.

Thanks for the tip lozlul, seems like we are all after them.

I have spent the last 2 weeks speaking to 2 american companies, Sudco and motorcyclecarbs, who both sell fcr's for the trx. Its not that they have stopped making these items its just they will only do orders of 10 or more sets, they will not sell them otherwise. So i was about to get a set from them as they worked out over 100 pound cheaper, since then i have spoken to customs and excise and it turns out more expensive than buying in england.
You end up paying 3.7% import tax and then 17.5% vat so the price br tuning is doing is very good, allens performance wants 570 odd pounds for a set.

The only trouble is that no matter where you purchase them from, you can expect at least 120 days before delivery as they will come from japan. Im thinking of doing it as a winter project so it turns out good for me!! Just spoken to the guys at br tuning and 6 orders have been placed so far, so its looking like a dead cert.
As for Keihin.de, they are mega expensive!! works out over 600 uk pounds when converted from euros.

39mm Keihin FCR's

Theres a set going on Ebay at the moment. 1 day 14 hours to go. Price currently $305 US . 39mm are ok but can be bored out to 41mm if you really want the ultimate. They are off 96 model Ducati 900ss. Direct replacement for TRX's. Come with cables and throttle. Auction # 220132471560.

Ta for the tip Kev but been there and tried that already, the guys not too keen on postage to the uk.

Then theres still the stupid uk cost of import tax and vat tax aswell as shipment costs, and then the arse ache of getting them bored out.
After years of waiting for them to come up on ebay and other sites, i can pretty much guarantee they will also go for around the price of a spanking new set anyway.
If our government didnt choke us all for unreasonable amount of taxes then it would be worthwhile but hey such is life!! :x

Good news though, got a phone call from br tuning this morning and the order has been placed - yahoo!! A very good feeling after 5 years of wanting a set, deposit taken so fcr's here i come.
Maybe a daft price to pay but then ive got a fair old wedge of cash stuffed under the mattress that has been begging to be put to good use for a long time, and what better use could you think of!!

Billy - Yeah, I sure hope I would, but I was too eager and as the BR offer came along I had already ordered mine elsewhere with even bigger a price tag...ah, well, you live and you learn.

Are you guys going to set up your carbs yourselves or let a professional do the job? Probably a wrong place to even out the losses of a impatient mind, but I was thinking to give it a go.

Thats a bummer Loz that you had to pay over the odds but hey you now have a set which is all that matters!!

Keep me posted on how you found fitting them and any tips you learn along the way, gonna try and fit them myself and then put it on my bro's dyno to fine tune it.
Ive had alot of setup tips from the fcr guru himself aka phuk :D , so reckon im good to go. the hardest part will be waiting nearly 4 months to get my hands on them.
I want them now :x

Billy,

Fitting them is pretty easy: straight swap really. Even easier if they've got the throttle cables, spiggots etc for the TRX with them.

You'll need to sort out air filter(s) but that's about it.

Trixy my boy, its been mentioned a few times!!
I might just gently remind him again if you know what i mean, the old boys sooo busy all the time thats the problem.

Cheers for the tips on fitment, luckily for me then it comes as a complete kit so should be a nice job to do for a change.

Just as an interesting question - how much power difference is there between the stock carbs, 39" keihins and the 41" keihins?

Once again i emphasise phuk is the all-knowing on this in my opinion so im not in a position to give exact figures.

However i believe young trixynut fitted fcr41's and a full renegade exhaust system and bhp went from 78 to 90 which is mental really.
If it wasnt trixy then i am truly sorry for the misquote!!

Dropping FCRs onto the TRX and dumping the airbox is by far the best value performance improvement available for the TRX.

No idea on 39s to 41s but what I can say (and it pains me to admit it because I really didn't believe the claims and still wouldn't without seeing it for myself) is that dropping FCRs onto an already tuned motor saw my power increase by the best part of 10bhp with pod filters. I'd guess approx 7-8 with standard airbox.

Billy,

Correctamundo: FCR41's with foam pod filters, full renegade exhaust system, TPS mod and totally standard engine (no cams, overbore, head work etc) showed 90bhp on my 'rex. Mmmm, nice! 8)
