Individual Cone filters (K&N etc)

Post by PhatVR6 » Thu May 24, 2007 12:15 am

any benefts to running a pair of these instead of the air box?

I love the sound with no air box on, so would like to do this, just don't know what size filters to get or where to get them.

any help arreciated off anyone who's done this already.

Yes there are benefits with running pod filters but whether you would necesseraily notice is another matter - it will give a couple of bhp. Not sure if standard carbs accept pod filters without some mods?

Most likely you will need to rejet and dyno which, when you add the cost of K&Ns on, make it fairly expensive to do.

Not sure which filters fit on the standard carbs but go and measure the od of the carbs and then the height of the airbox and visit the K&N site - that'll tell you. Failing which, I'll measure mine at some stage (but they are on FCRs)

I have indivudual K&N pods on mine - when I took it in for the MOT a couple of weeks ago, I was quite surprised that the intakes made more noise than the standard cans! The Akra's a different kettle of fish though  !
One down side for me though is that there's an odd kind of pressure resonance at about 3/4000 rpm which makes my ears hurt a bit, although it's not too bad with helmet on :rr: at a few mph.. !

it was the induction noise what I was after more then outrigth power.

already got a set of TDM carbs which are dynojetted and ready to go on.

Maybe i´ve misunderstood it but aren´t the CV carb benefitted of having an airbox due to vacuum etc.!?

....and regarding sound (some say noise) i did my first high speed run with airplugs the other day....most def AWESOME....all harsch sounds gone and just the low grunt there....will for sure ride with plugs more often!!
....and i won´t miss all the clappering from the kehin´s either! 8)

You're right Killer, with the cv's without an airbox you are likely to get strange behaviour from the bike.Cross winds will even affect the way it runs.Just look at some guys that have drilled their airbox and found the bike didn't want to run properly because of it.
