Phuk, didn't you use something off a Jetski snowmobile or sommat?
Yeah, from a snowmobile. In the end I gave up, even through they mounted up OK, as it was going to cost me a small fortune to amend the throttle linkages etc so I sold them (for a profit amazingly) to a guy with a BMW twin.
Now where can I get me a set for little money?
Good luck with that. Don't come up often second hand - I stumbled on mine from an ex TRX racer who had them sat in his garage (needed an effing good clean though!!!!). I think I've seen 1 pair from a TRX come up on ebay in the last year.

With the exchange rate as good as it is at the moment, buying them from the USA is probably the best way to get them at the moment (round about $800 if you can avoid import duty - do you know anyone stateside?)or you are looking at £600 new from Allens.

Prob the best way to get some is to go onto Ebay USA and search for Ducati 900ss flatslides.

Thanks.

Good job I didn't buy a pair I'd seen on ebay for a snowmobile then.

I do know a few people stateside, might have to call in some favours.

Might seem obvious, but if you're buying a secondhand set of FCRs off another bike for your Trixie make sure they're a downdraught set and not horizontal. One's for Guzzis, BMW etc would be horizontal, and may not fit or work to their best potential.

There is quite cheap set of old FZR1000 FCR's for sell here in Finland
for 550€. The fellow claims it's an FCR40 set, has there been 40mm
FCR set's? One thing is bothering =>

Phuk said that Do not buy a bank of 4 to split or 2 singles, it will cost you a bloody fortune!

What do you mean by this??

AFAIK FCRs are 39 or 41 not 40 - they could have been bored out though?

550 euros is approaching what you can get them for new if you import from the US given that the dollar is relatively weak at the moment.

The chances of the bank being spaced correctly is very slim and here lies the cost. New spacers, throttle linkages and fuel pipes are expensive and then you will have to buy new spiggots to attach the carbs to your head - I was told this would cost over £150. FCR bits aint cheap!

Give a Keihin supplier a ring and see what they say.

I really would like to hear more about the combatibilty of a FCR41 set intended for TDM (part no. 016 671) when mounting the set to a TRX (respective part no. would be 016 671). The part numbers alone give a hint about a great resemblence between the sets (not mentioning anything about the similarity of motors), but then again there seems to be some kind of a difference. Parhaps different lenghts of the cables? So, if you guys have some info concerning TDM specific FCR41 sets, please enlighten me.

The reason for this hunger of mine for your wisdom lies in weak dollar. Ordering stuff from US and A (or was if of? Damn that Borat!) is higly lucrative these days. The cheapest new set I could find was 750 euro (or about 500 Pounds sterling) including shipping + customs + our ridiculous 22% VAT. The problem is obviously that the yanks (at least these fair tradesmen in question) have only FCRs for TDM.

Oh, and one more thing: is the airbox of TRX similar to the on in TDM? I´ve got an offer for a adapter set to mount an airbox of a TDM to FCRs as well.

Thank for your input, guys!

The 2 part numbers you've quoted are the same which would suggest to me that the carbs are the same?

As far as I know, the actual Keihin FCR 41 carbs are the same for any bike: trx, tdm, ducati, guzzi. Some have a TPS fitting if the're intended for a Yamaha, but even of they don't, you can bpass the TPS.

The only differences are in the attachment spigots to the manifold on one side and to the airbox on the other, and probably the throttle cables, but all of these can be modified or changed for other ones.

Your local Keihin dealer/importer will have the bits, or try Allens Performance in the uk.

The 39's I fitted to mine were supposed to have come from a TDM, the inlet spigots were only 21mm long where the TRX spigots are 40mm long - Allens wanted £40.00 per spigot so I made my own.

As far as cabling is concerned, I made up a new one to suit the FCR's pulley, but junked the 'close' cable and only used the pull cable.

Didn't worry about the choke cable, it starts ok without! The TPS mod took 10 mins and couple of crimps - the end result is fookin fantastic!

Thanks for the info. My typos aside, the part numbers actually are 016 671 for TDM and 016 670 for TRX . It looks like I just might take my chances with the TDM FCRs.

And what's left is the question about the possible similarity of airboxes between TDM and TRX...anyone? I would also welcome any opinions whether the mounting of an airbox to a set of FCRs is a worthy exercise. There is, afterall, some interesting space between the frame rails of the headstock area should one have some ideas ragarding ramming something through there (this should bring some intresting points to the conversation).

It's been in my thoughts as well, and 'my' tuner and I discussed building an airbox that would encapsule the carbs completely. Cold fresh air with a slight overpressure would be jummy, or?

No similarity at all between TDM & TRX airbox.

Like Earywig says, airboxes are totally different.

You'll need to get the right inlet spigots which are specific to connect the FCRs to the TRX airbox, but you'll need to put in a free flowing filter like a K&N.

Or take out the airbox and fit sock filter or pod filters like I did....

Dunno about a ramair system, but anything is possible although is it worth it?

Another option would be velocity stacks and slip on filter ( thanks max )
