Rear Shock. and supension / handling in general.

Hi All,

I have recently done a cafe type conversion on my trx. After a bwm decided to drive through it, destroying basically everything plastic.

I have cut the sub frame off for the pillion seat to fit a nice little box/hump style tail piece. i also have clip-ons etc bring my weight further foreward

Now no matter how i adjust the suspension it is too stiff!. I am thinking that because I only weigh 60 odd kilos and now have less weight at the back and the stock spring being designed to handle two people on a longer leaver,
That I need a different softer spring so that I can actually get the suspension woooorking.

Does any one have any thoughts on what rate, brand spring could help me?
or other thoughts about the suspension/handling?

assuming you are using the stock shock and spring , and if it is stiff I would dial down the compression damping.

If you decide to change the shock or spring there are many options, just do a search on the forum for "shock upgrade"

Std Rear spring is good if your around the 72kg mark but if you change the dog bones to shorter yzf ones you change the rising rate so is that your culprit.??

Currently I haven't done anything accept various suspension adjustments on the stock compression dampening and pre load.
I will have a look through shock upgrades

Just came across post,I know it was a while ago and about suspension,but Im also making mine into a cafe race,I've already done the front end,and will be getting short exhaust and fly screen soon and in the autum I'lll be looking to do the rear end.I'm just wondering what type of mods did you do to your frame and have you any any hints and tips,maybe a few pics,before I get going,although Im still not sure of exactly what type of seat style i want,looking at something down the lines of whats on the Norton 961 or the latest Triumph Thruxton,but as I say any info will be welcome

My cafe racer project is almost done all fabrication etc frame at powder coaters and bodywork at bodyshop.

I think the standard rear suspension is horrid (especially when you are on the larger side like me) and when you are building a cafe racer and want to tidy the back end up its a pain having that remote reservoir so i changed the rear shock for a 2007 R6 and then fitted the projection adjustable dogbones to jack it up a bit, you can just see them in this picture
