Good idea..
Rod had a cunning plan just like that so I've modded a set of Akrapovic headers with two bungs just before the balance pipe to accomidate two wide band O2 sensors that he has, so we can get the air fuel sorted for each pot.
Then the only dyno time is for tweeking the timing with the programmable ignition saving time and ultimately money.
I figured the money saved on dyno time has pretty well much paid for the ignition which is a lot easier just progamming on a P.C. than time pulling carbies a part.

I am planning on just using one sensor but weld in 2 stainless bungs so I can swap between the 2 pipes.

With the belly pan on mine it looks like I will need to weld the bungs on below the water pump (right side) and sprocket cover (left side) so as I have sufficient clearance for everything.

Probably get the wiring sorted tonight but will need to take the headers off and take them to a muffler place to get the bungs mig welded on

Tip for anyone doing this is to get stainless bungs and plugs. A lot of the bungs are mild steel and indeed a lot of places sell stainless bungs with mild steel plugs

I got a pair of these

Almost done installing the o2 sensor on my bike. I have all the wiring done but I need to get a couple of bungs welded onto the header pipes to screw in the sensor itself. Unfortunately all of the local muffler places are closed still so will have to wait.

Anyway here is a picture of the gauge

Image

and this is under the rear seat, where I put the control box etc. The switch on the left allows me to turn the whole thing off if I want to disconnect the sensor, the momentary switch is to calibrate the sensor and the led communicates the status of the sensor

Recently changed my chain and sprockets and went with a 41 tooth on the back. Have yet to take it for a decent spin but so far I am happy with it. Also put new tyres or. Michelin Pilot Power 3. Very happy with these indeed.

after taking the engine out of the frame last night, in order to make the work easier I got started on overhauling the engine tonight.

Plan is to hone the cylinders, replace the rings, replace the inlet valves, reseat and replace the valve stem seals for all the valves and replace the cam chain.

Tonight I got the stripping it down,

Head off

Image

Pretty clear that the valve stems seals are letting plenty of oil in to cylinder 2 (top of picture)

Image

the bores actually look pretty good.

Image

hot exhaust valves on cylinder 2

Image

rings looks to be doing a decent job, but will be replaced

Image

Subaru upper engine cleaner got all the baked on oil of the piston from cyl 2

All clean

Does it smoke/smell of oil under load or after overrun Con?

Do you think the rings bedded-in properly?

MrMuscle oven cleaner does a great job too, might be a bit cheaper as well - knowing Suby products!

It looks a bit glazed to me, but I think the rings bedded in reasonably well. Fortunately I have a mate who works for Subaru :D

That's why I asked the oil burning question. If it burns under load it's the bores/rings - if after the overrun, it's the valve seals. I also think the problem is glazed rings due to too careful running in.

Never really seen worn/hard valve seals on a TRX/TDM engine.

It would also be worth checking the clearance between the piston compression rings and the piston ring lands in case the rings are "floating"

Sorry, I thought I had posted a response to your question yesterday but I must not have hit the submit button,

I am not really sure where it smokes, I think on the overrun and if you hammer it out of a corner, but not sure. I will ask a mate who is usually following me.

The valve seals on cylinder 2 inlets look to be leaking for sure though, from looking at the piston crown and also where i look in the inlet manifolds there is some evidence of oil in there. The always look abit wet.

In any case I will be honing the cylinders and have new rings to go in. Also am replacing all if the valve stem seals and the inlet valves.

As suggested I will do all the inspection measurements

ok, I asked my mate and he tells me:
It does smell more oily than what a normal “fuelly” smell would be. It never seemed to smoke visibly tho, maybe a little puff after off throttle engine braking back to on throttle (nothing visible under load that I remember).

Hi Paul,
How did the gauze filter look inside the sump and the dry sump :?: :?: . I found a quite a lot of gunk inside the tank on this gauze filter when I pulled my motor down and a long stringy piece of silicone about 3" long on the other down the bottom.
