What tyres are we all using?

Post by M.V. » Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:06 am

My Shinko 005's are nearly dead after 7500 k's, & I think the Michelin Pilot Road 2's are for me, there's plenty of life in the Shinko's on the sides, but none in the middle.

So, has anyone used the Pilot Road 2 on a TRX & is there a better tyre for the money?

The other thing I have heard is a S/T dual compund rear with a sticky sport front tyre, any one doing this?

BTW, no complaints about the Shinkos, I haven't had any "oh shit" moments, they felt really good still do. I have heard talk of 20 000 k's out of the pilot road 2's, in which case the $100 or so I saved by buying the Shinko's was probably a false economy...

I got Michelin Pilot Road 2's on the TDM and i think they are great, good in the wet, cold and good generally.
Had Roadsmarts, D208s, Qualifiers and Now Supercorsa pros on the TRX. They are all good but dont last very well. Managed about 4000miles on the rear with the 208's.
I would be quite happy with the PR2's on the TRX if i was going back to road riding with it.
Hope this is some help.

using Dunlop Qualifier D208 (or D207, cant remember). My second set and I like them, very 'neutral' feel.

Usually choice comes down to budget though, but avoid cheap cheap stuff like Maxxis, and avoid Bridgestone BT010 or 020 or 021 etc as they don't seem to suit the TRX at all.

Maxxis Supersports for me, they rock! They're good enough for edge-to-edge fun and games and they're cheap. They were good to go and scrubbed in 20 miles after fitting :D

Ive got an 020 on the front and it feels like its about to wash out all the time.
My bike maybe a dinosaur but it still has some bite & has a mighty roar.

Sometimes I wake up grumpy ........ but usually I let her sleep in

Got 020s on my trx and they are fine although the rear does tend to move about a bit..

Metzler 3s front and rear.
Bloody streets ahead of the Bridgstones I use to use.
I can now take my hands off the bars without the thing doing a violent headshake, like it would do with the Bridgestones
PS I only take my hands off the bars for experimental purposes.

Currently using Pilot Road 2CT. 120/70 front and 170/60 rear. These are on my daily ride. Much better tyre than similar Dunlop and Bridgestone varieties I have used. So much more feedback from the tyre and better edge feeling. Not being a soft and sticky compound they will let go a bit when pushed hard on the edge of the tyre but give plenty of notice of what's coming so you can avoid disaster. Good in the wet too.
It must be true, I read it on the internet.

Stu, I doubt I'll be pushing the tyres anywhere near their limits at this stage, but I do like that they're good in the wet!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I reckon the Pilot Roads 2's are for me.

Best I go & see my bank manager about a loan to buy some new tyres! #-o

Continental RaceAttacks. I love them, never had any trouble, they warm up quickly for a 'track' focussed tyre so are beautiful for both spirited road riding and having a fang at the track.

Dunlop Qualifier 2´s, pretty awsome in the wet.
Rode them on track in pouring rain, marshals took us off due to the heavy rain....dunlops worked a charm!
