Bafflectomy

Post by Red Rex » Fri May 30, 2008 6:39 pm

To release a few extra dB's from standard cans ...
Scribe a line on the end of the silencer using the chrome end cap as your guide.
Chain drill along this line with a 3mm drill.
Join the holes and pull out the silly little pipe thingy.
File the edge of the nice new big hole to make it smooth and look nice.

Now you can either replace the chrome caps now and go for a ride, or if that's just a little too noisy you will need to make a baffle plate from a disc of sheet aluminium, like this ...

which fits under the end cap. All the little holes add up to a bit more than the original 'standard' pipe area (plus a bit to be sure not to restrict gas flow of course). Still sounds 'grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat' but doesn't annoy the plod so much.

An hour in the garage well spent !!!!
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

Or you can go down to your local hardware shop and buy ready made drainers which fit over the plug/sink hole which will fit perfectly.
Thanks to Kev, =D> I did mine in about 10 mins, thats assumng that the baffle has already been taken out. =D>
Much more user friendly.

What can on the R1 :silent: *is that really a can... why don't get a pipe only

About your question, I do think it's not as loud as a race can (without the baffle), but just a bit more to hear the can's roar

I just cut the baffle on my first TRX about 2-3mm from the body. As you say the resulting carcophany was glorious and raucous. :D Surprising how much that affects the sound dynamic.

It never stops producing pants expanding sound. I always give it a blat going through a tunnel or past a suitable sound reflecting surface and have a giggle with myself..

you could quite easily refit the baffle and reweld it back in so long as you dont crush the middle end pipe when you remove it! With abit of imagination you could (and i think I'll devise a method) of making it simple to remove/replace whenever it takes ya fancy
