Rear shock

Post by minus1 » Sun Apr 12, 2020 10:37 pm

I am in the process of cleaning the rear shock and I noticed that the rubber bump stop is perished, is it possible to replace it yourself or is it a job for a specialist?

Cost you about $300 for a full service and bump stop on the rear shock and will come up like new again , re-gassed and new oil if in Oz...

The bump rubber on mine did the same thing years ago.

I was looking for a temporary fix as we were going away for a 2 day ride the next day - hunting through tubs of stuff in the shed I found the bump rubber off the top of a Ford Escort rear shock looked like it would work.

I cut a slit through the bush to enable it to fit around the shock shaft (the bush ID was a bit bigger than the original one but no problem with this). I managed to squeeze it between the spring coils & once it was slipped around the shaft I used a bit of superglue to make the bush a full circle again - job done!

I reckon this was about 5 years ago now - it's still in there & still working perfectly!
