Parallel Twin Revival

As a fan of the configuration its great to see so many new models using it, and not only high volume commuters or adventure bikes but also sport focused high spec models, V-twins may have a slimmer girth but heat dissipation, weight bias and room for induction components are all advantages of the parallel layout. There is a lot to be admired of the 25 year old TRX design.

Totally agree its a great layout with a lot of inherent advantages.

A manufacturer needs to step up an make one with a bit of perforamce about it. 120 - 130bhp would be a really nice figure in a lightweight package

Here you go:

Aprilia RS660, with a V4 engine cut in half.
Specs not available yet but news articles state "up to 100 bhp" which seems a bit low for a modern 600+cc sports bike. :-k

ah yes i saw this.

660 twin with 100bhp is the highest output parallel twin per cc so far (i think)

800cc and 120bhp would have been better but i like the concept, which has been universally slated haha

The aprilia has arrived... https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/new ... lia-rs660/
Lots of gushing about the engine note... yeah, yeah, been there done that, 20 years ago.
I wish them success, and a reliable spares backup service. My old Falco is suffering for want of parts.

Aussie motorcycle news has published its annual bike of the year article, ( always seperate hype from facts when I read it ) , 11 bikes short listed , 5 are parallel twins , winner is a parallel twin. Hopefully a manufacturer will keep with the configuration and build a worthy TRX successor, being 850 plus capacity, frame mounted fairing, clip on bars, and similar ergo’s.

The R7 is a reality, even if it is only in Promo form at the moment.Looks to be worthy of the ‘ R ‘ family with its body work and clip ons. Hoping for a bigger displacement in the future ( parallel twin of course).

Well upgrade your trx motor and chassis for 1/2 the price of a new MT-07 and kick both the MT-07 & 09’s In the arse, Aprillias and KTM’s will all be scratching their heads when being done by a 25 yr old classic.
