After discovering engine had virtually no oil in it. I can engage gear and go through them -- engine not running - havent got that far yet - thought i'd try the clutch whilst just going over things... now here lies my issue .. or perhaps lack of understanding of this engine?? To my mind with gear engaged .. pull clutch in and the front sprocket should turn .. ?? well upon pulling clutch in i had nothing -- no resistance at all and on the clutch housing could pull it in with one finger ... surely this isnt right? .. So i took the housing off to inspect things as it felt though everything had been taken out .. but no it appears to all be there ... only thing i notice and thought odd was the racket type arrangement/pushrod was wobbly the part on the pressure plate ... is this right .. does the engine need to be running for this to stiffen up?/ and do what i thought it would do.. clutch basket is fine plates not stuck how can. With housing off cant turn the basket either

Ok ... have now got basket moving -- engaged all gears and socket set on front sprocket and got all things turning... only question here now is -- the part that protudes from pressure plate meant to wobble (not the the hinged racket bit) but the stem that goes through onto the roller bearings?

For now have re-installed without gasket as i ripped it , all marks align everywhere they should but i dont understand how/why i can move the clutch actuating arm with 1 finger, surely there should be some resistance ???

To operate the clutch you must be compressing all the springs, which is not a one finger job. You must have got the wobbly bit in without it engaging on the worm drive in the case. Concentrate on getting that right and all should be ok.

Re taking up the slack then replacing the lever. There is a pip on the lever to line up with line on cover.

The pull rod is loose by design.
The teeth of the rack should be almost vertical, facing to the rear, to engage correctly with the actuating rod.
Withe the cover back on (I've used Permaflex for 15 years, no problems), rotate the actuating rod clockwise to take up the slack in the pull rod.
Fit the actuating arm so that the mark on the top of the arm and the mark on the cover align.
Connect the spring.
Adjust the cable free play to suit.

Rinse, repeat, wipe hands on pants.
