Re: CARB IDENTIFICATION
The emulsion tube is not a replaceable part on post '98 TDM

Re: CARB IDENTIFICATION
Think i will go with 2 $45 carb rebuild kits and see if that sorts it.

Re: CARB IDENTIFICATION
For those who are interested.
I have 3 sets of carbs laying around and just took a look for the differences. They all are 38mm.
Two are the same, with more or less similair codes on it: 4UN00 K5Y3 & 4UN00 T581
Both use #75 starterjet and #142,5 mainjet. The pilot jets wouldn't come off, so I don't know that one.
The third set if from a Japanese bike and has a different code: 4NX00 F4 S4X1.
It has accelerator pump nozzles and a (sort of) button on the floater chamber. Also the connection tube between the floater chambers is different than the one on the EU/UK spec carbs. See pic below.
The starterjet is #75 again but mainjet #146. Although the bike it came off ran with a drilled airbox, so maybe it has been set up for that use. I haven't tried the pilot jet.
So sadly no 40mm '99 TDM carbs in my shed
But is the Japanese set any better than the EU/UK spec? Or is it just different...
I can imagine it is different because of environmental rules.

Re: CARB IDENTIFICATION
Something to be mindful of and wasn't aware of any difference.
Did a spare parts check here in Oz and looks like all carbies are the same 38mm on the trx's. (96-99)
The TPS is the same on all Oz model TRX's too and interchangeable with later model XJR's 12/1300's and XJ900's
But search on the TDM 850 shows a carby change from 99 to 02 and they run their own designated TPS.
So just double check the intake spigot length if you choose to fit the later model 40mm TDM carbies to your TRX.
Remember too the fcr's for a TRX need 7mm longer intake spigots than the TDM's to get around the Acc pump position and oil filler pipe.
It may not be an issue with the larger CV carb's but best to be safe than sorry.
