I've yet to pull the carbs off and have a look, over the weekend perhaps - time permitting. Took the oil filter cover off last night and was rewarded with another litre of petroil. Still to see what's in the exhaust pipes and the airbox. Hope the filter isn't ruined. No sign of any sparkly bits in the oil filter or what I've drained out of the engine. At this stage I intend to complete the clean-up, reassemble and start it up again. I am thinking I can't do much more damage than I have, so have little to lose.
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.

Carbs hooked up to fuel with the tap on PRI overnight, no sign of any leakage.
I'll be taking the tap apart to check it but it looks like my problem was a one off.
As mos of us in Oz don't suffer from ethanol contaminated fuel I reckon the tap is the first thing we should be fixing as if this doesn't leak then nothing else makes any difference.
New o-rings and seals through the carby should be done as routine maintenance eventually, but this is not the cause of our problems.

I've often mused to the dribble from the tap when removing,as well Dicky...my thoughts is it's the excess fuel in the tap body or in the elbow fuel line..
On tap disassembly, the tap has been clean enough..and the prefilter gauze is in order.
Might go the rout of the tap mod yet..but then I'm usually draining via siphon the remains of fuel into a 20 litre plastic container after a decent ride so there isn't much in the tank when parked.

I replaced my fuel tap about 2 years ago with and on/off/reserve one, I always just leave it in the on position without issue

All back together and running again.
It did clunk a bit when it first started, but not for very long.
If it did any damage it's already done and nowt I can do about it.

Good to hear it Dicky. Wish that I had the same luck. Had a good look at the oil filter today in full daylight. It has small chunks of non-magnetic metal embedded in it. I've decided now not to reassemble and attempt to start it. It's rebuild time.

Bummer. Better to be safe than sorry, especially if you've got another bike or two to ride in the meantime ;)

Bad time to do it though, parts from the US will be almost at AU prices  0.73 today, up a little.

And of course, I've missed out on Cobba's rebuild kit. Couple of cheapish TRXs on the market, thought about buying one for the motor and selling off the rest, but not likely to end up with a decent motor.

Unlucky mate, but sounds like a good move. All the best with the rebuild, I can only offer chassis bits which you don't need so best of British with it.

Thanks Mav.
Having just said that I wouldn't, there's a low-k trx on ebay that I have put a bid on, but haven't cracked the reserve yet.

There was a TRX at Manheim's auction in Altona last Thu.
Repairable write off, sold for $1k.
My nephew told me about it after the auction had ended. I'll kill him later.

Always seems to be the cheapest option when the engine goes bang.
Thankfully there are still a few motors around.

On another note, was doing my daily commute to work along Victoria Rd this morning and here was Wally (Bill) standing on the side of the road in Gladesville
Would've stopped but was too busy harassing a tradie in a ute who believed the bus lane was some sort of express lane for him!

Texted Bill later in the morning
