Varning: Magnetic oil drain plug from ebay
Was changing oil this weekend and got sweaty.
The magnetic oil drain screw bought from evilbay just shredded the threads out of the engine.
LUCKILY i had the standard much longer one here so i could use that....but beware. It´s CRAP!!

Evil Bay/Magnetic Drain Plug
Thanks for the heads-up. Was thinking that they were a good idea.I,ll keep my hard earned for something else.
Thats the good thing about this sight, we can all save each other a lot of time and money so then we can do the important thing and ride our trixies.

Hi (thread) Killer!
Since at every oil change there's a little swarf on the magnet I keep the magnetic screw and just tighten it not with the recommended torque but enough to keep it from dripping and from damaging the thread.
Feeling greetins from Munich!
I bought some off Louis and when tightening I found that quit a bit before reaching the recommended torque my feeling said "STOP!"Killerwhale wrote:...
I was nowhere near the Nm on the moment wrench.

if you have access to a lathe, you can buy a magnet, drill a hole in the plug, push the magnet in and loctite it into place.
As for torque settings on a oil drain plug, ive NEVER used it.. always done the feel method.. Never leaks, never strips..
But i wouldnt argue the fact its NOT the best way of doing it.. but it works for me.

I use the recommended Nm for a lot of bolts, but for the oilplug, just a wrench and my 'just tight is tight enough' works fine
In 2 weeks time, the oil change is about to happen again so....
