1995 JDM Gold Brembo front callipers

Post by Rod.s » Fri May 01, 2020 1:32 pm

These callipers seem to be a bit of a mystery to many owners and since rebuilding mine I've had several people contact me for information. So here's what I know and hopefully this should help others to find what they need.

Firstly forget going to Brembo for information I did and received complete silence!!

These are the front callipers on my bike.

They are known as 6800 Series: P3034 (30mm34mm), 4-Piston with the TYPE 2-Pin Pad Mount. Many people just refer to them a Brembo P3's. They were fitted to a huge range of bikes in the 1990-2000 year period such as Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Yamaha and Honda so finding parts shouldn't be hard  but it is, or can be.
Yamaha still keeps a good range of parts for these and if you know the part numbers they can still be ordered through your Yamaha dealer (if they are competent) Some spare parts staff are bloody useless so ring around.

The callipers are gold anodised, so if you are wanting to clean them don't grit blast them or paint them, the reason for the anodising is that it allows the heat to escape unrestricted. If you paint them or powder coat them, then you will be traping the heat within the calliper and this could lead to brake fad if pushed hard (race track etc)

Just clean them or as I did put them into an Ultrasonic cleaner (I use a $30 Aldi one) it's crap but does the job.

The pistons are alloy and as also anodised for heat dispersion and corrosion protection, just clean them the same as the bodies. If the pistons are corroded then replace them as the corrosion will compromise the seals over time and we never skimp on brakes!

There are several people selling kits for these on the Bay listed under P4 Brembo's and Axial mount which is correct. If you find these kits they will have seals and pistons for one caliber and can work out to be very expensive ($150 OZ a side ) But they do include pistons.

Yamaha part numbers#
The seal kits come with enough seals for two pistons and as they are two different size pistons 30mm and 34mm you will need two different kits for each calliper.
Seal #
-4HM-W0047-60
-4HM-W0047-50

Pistons
-4HM-W0057-50
-4HM-W0057-60

Brake pads..
Genuine Brembo #07BB19.xx ( the xx referee to the hardness and varies) this number can be cross-referenced to many others
Metal gear. 30-101 (organic) 30-101-S (sintered)
Cheers

If it's not made in China, it's a fake!

Interesting stuff, thanks.
Yamaha 4HM refers to the XJR400. Good to know.

Now I have to find out if these seal kits can be used in the SZR660 calipers I have.

Thanks very much for this info as I have these on my 95 TRX 850 and was worrying about finding replacement pads.
