R6 wheel on std swingarm

Has anyone herefitted a 5 spoke 2006 r6 wheel on a standard swingarm.

Dunno, but I'm kinda keen to fit the '99' 3-spoke to the standard trx swingarm...or go to the trouble of fitting the vfr rear swingarm and wheel (lot of work!!)

I'm sure it would be possible as it may just be an issue of sprocket alighn ment /spacers and possibly modding a R6 caliper mount. The R6 swing arm is longer so not a good choice goin down that path... Talk to Dave Kellett mate...

Wheel spindle diameter is probably one of the first things to check. A quick check on wheel bearing fitment would tell you this.

Have thought of late model R6 wheels for mine as they must be lighter than my old 90's YZF front and rear. Have not got far with this thought tho. Would think handling would benefit overall from less rotating mass.

If you do manage to source any useful info re: compatibility let us all know. Could be a desirable mod for many of us.

Back in '99 when I bought mine, a Yamaha mechanic I knew was pointing out the mods on his TRX, one of which was an R6 back wheel apparently. Wish I'd paid more attention and asked more questions at the time. Lost track of him years ago now.

Okey dokey...

R6 (5.5" wide) and R1 (6" wide) rear wheels use a 28mm bearing so it's relatively easy to fit them into a TRX swingarm using new spacers. They're narrower across the hub than YZF750 wheels too.

I don't have any specifics on the chain run or brake alignment, sorry

Thanks all for your feedback. Just finished painting and fitting original wheel in black. Suppose ere are too many what if s for a safe outcome. Also one of the engineering experts in On he South side reckons the newer wheels are rubbish. Hit a small bump and they are bent. While sanding down and working on the original wheel it was apparent that they are well made and quite bullet proof. Getting all the crappy white paint took 6 hours of chemical and wire brush stripping! Used vht black gloss paint and the result is very pleasing.

Thanks for reminding me Fung. Will take a pic tomorrow. U will see new Merzeler intact m5 s as well. Bike feels brilliant on 180 rubber recommend the same to trx aficionados. The rear tyre has a good round curve and much more wiling to flick around. Had battleaxes earlier the. M5 s make it feel lie chalk and cheese.

Running M5s as well Trixed...not a problem, a good single compound hoop.
