Correct orientation when installing cam chain tensioner?

Post by JL » Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:02 pm

Just a quick one,

What is the correct orientation when installing the cam chain tensioner? The drawing I made on the sandwich bag I stored it in after removal does not match the picture in the Haynes manual. I thought the plunger should be at the bottom and the ratchet at the top, like in pic 9.5 (page 2.18), but in their installation pic (9.8a) it is being installed the other way around. The Yammie workshop/parts manuals do not have a clear picture. Thanks in advance!

I had the same confusion after loosing the piece of box cardboard I had drawn a picture on...... I settled on placing it with the rachet teeth down even though I believed that the previous owner had placed it with the teeth up....... had no issues, it works perfectly and Ive done about 1500km since..Cheers

Thanks Smithers - installed and rotated engine several times, all timing marks lining up nicely, chain nice and tight and no funny sounds :)
