check your exhaust/pillion peg frame mounts

Post by TonyDevil » Thu Sep 24, 2009 1:13 am

my right side snapped again, the temporary weld held for a year
checked the other side and that was cracked too
i've ground the mount flat and neighbour (who welds minis for a living....useful man to know) has made a couple of mounts for me and welded them on

now these are the only 2 areas on my bike where there is any sign of rust, there is nothing anywhere else
so either a previous owner had a really fat bird on the back or i'd suggest people check theirs
TRX850 1997 - sunny day twisty toy
TDM900 2003 - commuting tool
TDM850 mk1 - scratching & touring
Z750 hardtail - project
gone but not forgotten : - XTZ750, GS500, GS125

Mine rusted out a couple of years ago too - and considering the state of my bike  it's actually the only area I've had problems with.

My RHS mounting bracket is cracked also the straps that support my end cans are constantly breaking. Vibrations from the exhaust Id imagine. The brackets welded to the frame are very flimsy.

He must be minted

Mine's got rust showing at the headstock but it's ok, the whole lot's off for powder coating this winter :)

I've welded mine up twice, the second time I welded a washer over the top for reinforcment. That did the trick.
