Akrapovic Exhaust

Post by Terzikat » Sun Mar 15, 2009 4:19 pm

Folks, I want to fit an akrapovic full system to my TRX with a carbon hexagonal can like Honks. Gericke's (my closest Akra dealer) says they only do them with the oval can. Does anyone know what part numbers I should be asking for? :(

I spoke to a Akra salesman lately and he said a full system for the TRX is not available anymore. Maybe this only accounts for the NL? I have send some e-mails around and from TTS (UK) it still seems to be available. They are not very fast with responding to e-mail though.

Indeed,if you go to the Akrapovic`home` site in the link I provided the TDM 900 is listed but not the TRX!
Maybe there`s stock sitting in warehouses that`s available but they don`t make them now.
TTS will definately sort you out with one,and whichever can you specify.
I`m certain the link pipe diameter will accomodate all their cans.

I thought so...

If anyone knows where to get an Akra system, I'd be interested.

The Akra system is listed on many websites but if you would ask for it or make an order, they'll tell you sorry, it's not available anymore.

What you need is a good copy, anyone near you with one?
You could maybe obtain dimensions etc from a kindly member with one fitted, the pipe routing wouldn`t have to be exactly the same as long as diameters and tuned length didn`t vary too much or there were no restrictive bends.
Although with modern pressurized gas pipe bending equipment that seldom happens anymore.
The traditional way of protecting brass tubing from kinking when making musical instruments is to freeze water inside the tube before bending it,I`m certain the same could be done with Titanium tubing.
The cans are easy, available pretty much anywhere. The absorbtion tube type of can is very easy to manufacture, all the materials are easily sourced too.

My current thought is on buying downpipes for a TDM from KEDO (which is said to be less restrictive) and a single e-marked silencer, like a Laser DualSound. Then I will ask my father to weld it together (he's a teacher in welding).

What about the route I suggested?
I`ve made stainless front pipes from following the form of bent welding wire before now,it`s not that difficult to find a good fabricater in the Netherlands surely?
Perhaps the exotic titanium is outside some welders abilities,I`ve never tried myself although with a pulsed TIG system I`m pretty good at regular alloys just don`t have the equipment and need to borrow/beg it from contacts.
What about contacting custom exhaust manufacturers with high pressure nitrogen gas tube forming facilities too?
Some of the custom exhaust manufacturers in the UK are excellent, here`s one of `quality` I know of:

http://www.gibsonexhausts.co.uk/

Pete Gibson`s built exhausts for pretty much anything but mostly known for his stroker expansion chambers.
And I`ve heard a lot of good reports about the skills of Zorstec too:

Perhaps a `holiday` in the UK should be considered,on the bike of course, then return with your new system all fitted and shiny.

Although your invitation is tempting , a trip to the UK for an exhaust will not be necessary. Indeed there are good fabricaters here in the NL, I know Trixz did this. But from him I also know it was even more expensive than a ready-to-go full Akra system.
And its the lower restriction I want. Therefore I would like to try TDM performance downpipes (like I said here). I know that the exhausts of the TDM and TRX are rather different but I don't understand why it wouldn't fit - even with a bit of work, .
It must be hard because I haven't heard anybody else about TDM downpipes and stuff. :?:

Edit: oh, another thing of importance: it shouldn't be too loud, because the police is paying more attention to bikers these days and I don't have to worry about noise limits on trackdays. The Akra systems came with e-mark approval signs, which is good to stay out of trouble.
