Calling all Dutch people!

Post by HansJ » Tue Apr 15, 2008 8:55 pm

This is not TRX related at all, but I need some advice for a company trip to Holland/Amsterdam. If You think You can assist with some advice, please let me know! If You have an auntie that runs a nice hotel with cheap prices, good food and beer and with a small conference room, this will help a lot ;)
Cheers,
Hans

We use to check in at the vondel (all v are f) and it´s situated near leidseplein (spell check) in on a street just beside the marriot hotel. From there you have walking distance to all the museums...great park....casino....hard rock café....ledseplein with bars and food (go see boom chicago, it´s a night to remember!!!).
If all of you can walk a bit you can walk down to red light in 1/2 hour or so.
I´ve been to a lot of good restaurants but where often driven there and can´t remember the names....
If you´re in redlight for to "look" at the ladies there are a VERY small alley wich leads to a horseshoe corridor, it´s here the real lookers are.....that´s with a L!

I now i´m not dutch but been there an awful lot so ask away and i´ll see if i don´t know the answer!

....oh yeah, just outside of amsterdam there are europes biggest go cart track....i THINK it´s called almeide (the village) and just next to it there are a really nice restaurant!!

You´ll love amsterdam...but take care in red light....and hide wallets...or even better. Leave them at the hotel and only bring as much cash as you need! ;-)

Thanks for the input. I have mailed the Hotel You mentioned KW, let's see what comes out of it. The normal hotel search sites have a dubious search function, I have a feeling there are loads of hotels with meeting facilities, but they don't up in the searches, only the really expensive ones seem to care to fill out the information correctly...

I thought of contacting the Dutch guys directly, but thought it would be more "polite" to ask officially. Maybe I should re-consider. Shifty is one (Jak, was it KW's references to this "Red District" whatever that is, that made You think of him???) Who else is from Holland, Tarwe, CULater are the ones I can recall?

Amsterdam is worth a visit, but must not necessarily be the place to stay for the conference. Any tips are most welcome!

Here I am! :flower:
But I don't know that much about A'dam... but Boom Chicago is fun indeed.
So... what do you want to know? :?:

hehe yeah that was probably it :D

He's "up north" though so may not be an expert on Amsterdam (he's not an expert on much  ).

Try checking out http://www.tripadvisor.com for some reviews - I've used the site a few times and its been pretty good. Failing that - find a travel agent that organises business trips and ask their advice ... if they think they'll get your cash they'll be really helpful ... doesn't mean you can't get advice and then sort it out yourself (as if I'd ever do that 8-[ )

Thanks Jak! That was a good website! As the copany will pay, I have for the moment outsourced the search to a travel agency, can't be arsed to sit hours in front of the computer (if it's not TRX related  ). Hope they'll come up with something decent, otherwise it's back to the computer.

just returned from a few days in Amsterdam, stayed at Falcon Plaza hotel, quite good at £120 per night for meself and missus, huge plasma in the room with eurosport, good breakfast and 'bout ten minutes from central station.
Good trip!!
