Ride mag luggage revews.

Has any one got copys of the ride mag luggage reviews. I have the one for the tail packs but was wondering if any one has the issues with the pannier and tank bag reviews.

Has any one got a good recomendation for a set of soft panniers that work well and clear the exhuasts?????

HAs any one got a set that they might want to pass on for a fair price. (would be in a month or so as have to paint the sucker 1st)

Any one know any one with a triumph bonnie or simmilar that would be interested in a swap or buy a set of leather triumph saddle bags that i have been given by a friend. they will fit and retro bike with low slung pipes. thy not new but in good nick.

I use oxford first timer throw over panniers which are very good.
they are expandable to about 48 litres, have useful pockets and are very secure when fitted.
The rain covers aren't very good, mine got shredded by the wind after a few hours of 100+ motorway riding
but they were fine before hand when the speeds were lower.

I've got Oxford panniers - can't remember the name but they are tapered to clear the exhaust.

Are well made and expand to hold enough for a decent time away.

from an old ride triangle list i found oxford seems to be the way to go. +++they come in red. i got to carry enough for like 7 weeks. am just taking a few basic tools, small tent,small sleeping bag, other camping bits and a couple of changes of cloths and a pair of shoes, and my camera gear(tankbag), and my wets. cant realy think of any thing else. am going to grab the panniers 1st and do a dummy pack, then see if i need a tail pack as well

the oxford panniers are good and stand up to a fair amount of abuse
but the rain covers on all the oxford stuff are completely shite
my advise would be to cover them in clear duck tape to add some strength
otherwise anything over 80mph will have them shreded in less than a day

Or just pack everything in plastic bags - that's what i do.

i use rafting bags, the kind you wrap the end up and clip together
they are that good you can use em as flotation devices
still not right tho that the luggage cant be designed to cope with proper use

I agree that they are not really fit for purpose.

I've got a couple of those rafting bags as well - tend to keep my camera and anything else I don't want to get wet in there as well.

It's surprising they don't make these panniers out of waterproof material. It can't be that hard can it? These plastic covers are normally complete rubbish. Stopping to put them on when it starts to rain is just ridiculous.

I have a pair of Frank Thomas panniers, they are pretty good, but not tapered as much as the Oxfords, and they only just clear my exhausts with a bit of care. (They are not really suitable for the TRX). They are not waterproof either. I've never had the waterproof covers, as I bought them second hand and the previous owner melted them on the exhausts on his SV.

yeah i am thinking oxford or cargo endurance as both their tail bags got rave reviews in the ride test.
phuk are yours humpbacks???
col the 1st timers are 1/2 the price of the humpback and sports panniers. how long do you think they will last? as i want to get as much gear here as i can and thereis no point buying something that may not last moer than a couple orf years.

any one got photos of trx with the panniers on?????

I had the oxford sport panniers in that lovely yellow colour, they are ok when you eventually get them on straight, but i got fed up with the rigmarole of getting them on and off for overnight stops.
I got rid and i now have a set of Ventura bars and a sport rack with a cargo
expanding tail pack, planning a mod this year with a bit of ali plate in the base of bag and 2 bolts with wing nuts so that i can do a quick on/off fitment that is totally secure. The proper ventura bag is the way to go if you get relly serious, you can then use the space where pillion would sit if you need to take the kitchen sink.

for tank bags, i'm now on my second lidls one (first got nicked) and still reckon for £15 they offer brilliant value for money. expandable, durable and they have a waterproof cover.

A friend of mine uses hers every day and has never had any trouble, can't argue with that imo.
