Anyway it is some improvement and having done that I decided to balance the carbs properly.

I had previously used a feeler gauge to get the butterflies lined up pretty well but they felt a little out of balance, so I decided to make a vacuum gauge

Very simply some 10metres of 3mm clear hose, 10ml of oil and a leght of wood.

Procedure is that you run the oil through the hose to the middle, get any bubble out and connect the ends of the hose to the inlets.

Not pretty but very effective.

My first reading was resonable close to balanced:

I turned the screw about 1/4 turn counter clockwise and that sorted it.

You can connect directly to the vacuum plugs on the intake manifold boots here:
Vacuum1.jpg
Or you can make life a bit easier by connecting to the vacuum hoses which come from the intake manifold boots on cylinders 1 and 2 which are in easy reach on the fuel tap and fuel pump here:

Just make sure you keep both ends of the hose as close as possible to the same length from the middle where the fluid is on your gauge

Will be droppig into the RTA at lunchtime tomorrow to upgrade my licence so I will finally be able to take her out for a propper spin tomorrow evening.

Just doing some final touches.

I had ordered a clear tail light from a wreckers in the UK which had some LED bulbs. Pretty happy with that as it worked out about AU$40 which is about the same I would have paid for the LED bulbs here by themselves:

Glad you are happy with the clocks Alex,

the switch block is for heated grips. I have moved it since that photo to tidy up the cockpit area:

I am originally from Ireland and before I moved here I just assumed that Australia was always hot. But seriously it gets bloody cold in winter outside of Sydney. Snow and all the rest of it. Brrrrr......I ride all year round so best to be prepared. But I will confess I have gotten a bit soft since I moved here

Bells Line Rd for sure is an awesome ride. At the foot on the mountains is a place called Pramrith....sorry......Penrith (locals will get the joke) it gets down into the -5's quite few times in winter.
