JE do recommend much looser piston to bore clearance than Yamaha do for thier standard parts - Make sure you get this right or it'll smoke like fook or seize!

They do all motorwork for Suzuki GBG and "Kenneth´s" so they should know what they are doing.....but with my luck.....

Re: JE rebore PHUK! Hilfe!
I had my SRX rebored and fitted a new forged piston (Wiseco).honkdawillydahonk wrote:JE do recommend much looser piston to bore clearance than Yamaha do for thier standard parts - Make sure you get this right or it'll smoke like fook or seize!
Was astonished to realize that clearance was bigger than for the stock casted one.
One of my basic beliefs is, that forged pistons expand more evenly then casted ones and are therefore better.
What is your knowledge or experience as to this?
(My profile is still as stock as my Trixie is, this might change)

They should measure the pistons and then bore to suit each individual piston as they all vary slightly. Clearence then should be set to piston manufactures specs i would imagine.

Hey, just got word. Ring gap should be 1/10 to 1/30mmHansJ wrote:And BTW, if You're contacting JE, ask them what ring gap clearance should be. I didn't bother, just set it to Yamaha Standard, but it might have been wrong...
...but you could explain a bit further....and is this measurement other than standard ones?

I'll check my JE box tonight - I wrote the gaps on thatKillerwhale wrote:Hey, just got word. Ring gap should be 1/10 to 1/30mmHansJ wrote:And BTW, if You're contacting JE, ask them what ring gap clearance should be. I didn't bother, just set it to Yamaha Standard, but it might have been wrong...

Re: JE rebore PHUK! Hilfe!
You put the rings in the cylinder (without the pistons...), and measure the gap between the ends with a feeler gauge. Standard measures are for the 2 compression rings, 0.30 - 0.45 mm, and for the oil ring 0.20 - 070 mm.Killerwhale wrote:Hey, just got word. But this must be to check rings if you buy them on the side so to speak...because after you bored for the pistons it´s kinda done deal isn´t it!?HansJ wrote:You put the rings in the cylinder (without the pistons...), and measure the gap between the ends with a feeler gauge. Re: JE rebore PHUK! Hilfe!
Nope, You measure, and if the gap is too little, You have to adjust the rings, i.e. take off some material. I had to adjust mine... If the gap is too big on the other hand, then You're right...

Do you remember the oil ring measurement for JE??HansJ wrote:, and for the oil ring 0.20 - 070 mm.Killerwhale wrote:Hey, just got word. Re: JE rebore PHUK! Hilfe!
No, sorry, but I'd set it the same as the compression rings, or slightly bigger. It's not as critical as the compression rings.

JE answer directly from USA:HansJ wrote:No, sorry, but I'd set it the same as the compression rings, or slightly bigger. It's not as critical as the compression rings.
Hi Mattias,
Now we're talking! You'll want to set piston to cylinder wall clearance at .0030 or .08mm and your top ring gap should be about .015-.016 or .406mm. Good luck!

Re: JE rebore PHUK! Hilfe!
Just checked the box I got my pistons in and the recommended gaps (as provided by TTS) are
0.012 - 0.014 inch for rings
0.012 - 0.014 inch for rings
