Hi Guys
Need some advice - Manual says Synthetic, can you use Part Synthetic? If so what do you recommend.

Motul 5100 10/40 in the TRX. Started using Halfrauds semi in the TDM as it drinks oil. Its £23 for 5 literes against Motul at £30 for 4 litres.
I have used the motul in the TRX for about 6 years 25K miles.

Second (or third) that advice above: I use a 'cheaper' semi-synth and change it a bit more regulary.

Synth can cause a bit of slip.

Semi synth 10W/40 Halfords too, even cheaper in my case as I have a trade card. :P
The TRX really doesn`t need nor require anything better as long as you change it before the recommended milage covered, I do mine at 3000 mls.
I know folk have found fully synthetic better in helping to cure oil usage but mines a good-un uses hardly any.

have used fully clutch slips bad with it so stuck to semi and change it every 1-2k on all my bikes along with the filter, the way i look at it is its a cheap option that can only give me less chance of spending lots on a big repair

Hi guys,

I've used 20w/50 fully synthetic, not cheap, but it's made a noticeable difference to engine noise, there was a definite 'clicking' before that has now gone!

No evidence of clutch slip either, which some have reported.

20W / 50 is a tad heavy for cold winter work, but if the bike`s only used in the UK`s `warmer` weather you`ll not have any issues.
10W / 40 gets around the motor easier at start up, I`ve seen it in print that more than 75% of engine wear occurs at start up, when tolerances are at their greatest and oil is finding it`s way through the galleries and drillings.

I'm now a confirmed 'fair weather' rider 8) I've got to the stage in my life where I've done all the rain/snow/ice riding I'll ever need! :D

So Trixie only comes out to play on nice days, I've also used Activ8 oil additive - to help on cold starts! It does seem to do what it says on the bottle... I've used it in the car as well (a high mileage BMW)

It does seem to work, and it's suitable for use on bikes with wet clutches!
