CARB IDENTIFICATION

Post by Gix » Thu Apr 19, 2012 10:39 am

Looking at buying some new Ti needles and emulsion tubes and was told there are two types of carb for the TRX
Mine is a UK bike registered in 2001.... is there an easy way to identify which carbs I have without stripping down..I can't seem to find the ident marks
Thanks in advance :)

I don't believe that is correct. AFAIK the carbs were common to all models

Isn't it the TPS that switched from one side to the other?

I don't doubt you but this is what is on the Factory Pro webite

''The internet's #1 choice.
"TDM / TRX Ti ProKit"

This is "the" #1 jet kit choice of TDM riders.
Best lowend and midrange and the best, if the user / tuner tunes for it, mileage.

Uses Titanium needles. Adds more low-end / midrange, if the proper main jet is selected, more topend power. Easy to install and tune - no slide drilling.

Make float height setting easier! Pick up a Float Cage Holder for Mikuni 38mm carbs - Click here

Note
If you have a 1999 model with 40mm carbs, marked; Type BDSR38, id, this kit will not work
-''

That's news to me, very interesting. Are they better than the originals? Might be a cheap upgrade between stockies & FCR's if so.

The Japanese home market ones had different carbs with accelleration pumps - did they use the same tubes/needles? I'd guess there would be a different taper to accommodate the extra squirt from the pumps :?
1996 TRX 850, blue, Ohlins 46HRCLS, Race Tech Gold Valves, 0.90 springs, Venom pipes, R6 brakes............
1974 Yamaha RD250A, Candy Blue
1998 Yamaha SZR660, blue of course
1967 Yamaha TD1C 250, Blue and white

I have a set of carbs here from a Japanese model. Indeed they have something that looks like accelleration pump jets.
I will put them apart later on to see jet sizes and that kind of stuff.

Mine is a Japanese import and has accelerator pumps, and I fitted jets and needles for a later model Aust bike, if that makes sense.

BDSR type 99-00 (and also TDM to 02 i think) should be same as carbed R1´s...found a jetting sheet 147,5 main instead of the 142 on BDST.

I don't think the TRX changed but the TDM certainly changed the carbs/gearbox ratios in '99. In fact, the post '99 emulsion tubes on the TDM can't be changed - can someone verify by part numbers that the TRX carbs changed then too???
