Hi what did you use to get the paint off the rims and what did you polish it with, I am liking the look and have a spare rear.....
Could be the start of a much needed rebuild for me, start off with spares, ready for bolting on and eek out the last of the good weather on the rusty nail before the big stripdown.

Oh! practical bikes (I think, the one that has a TRX in it this month) has D.I.Y. zinc plating, with a step by step ...with pics.. guide on how to do it, just thought I would mention this cause of your own zinc plating, and if any one else was interested, I has assumed it was a "specialist only" job....

Just plain old paint stripper brushed on the let sit, then scrape off. Buff alloy first with a linish attatchment then use a cloth polish wheel on a elect grinder. Yesss that is my next project to make a Zinc dip!!

If youe lazy like me you could just take them to a metal polisher my guy will do it for $75 each

Well got the brake lines on and happy with the fitment, now just to bleed the bastards!! Put one muffler on, stood back and found a reason to open another Cold stubbie.. Seems to be looking a bit like a bike now.

Early Yamaha ignition switch fitted nicely where the old seat lock was located. I am working on the assumption that this will make me look cool reaching down under the seat Old school when I go to start it

hey flapper your build looks stunning and excellent pics as well, just noticed that you have changed the rear shock from your fj one to an r6 unit, any reason for this, i have just gone the r6 way and its like a new bike a must do mod in my mind, keep up the good work. cheers pom.

2 reasons mate, one the Fj is a tad shorter and I need to get an adapter. second reason is the fuckin thing is leaking and I choose to piss it off till I get it right. Maybe use it for my next build...... By the way you are very observant and I have changed a few things along the way to see if it gets picked up through the photos and you have the cigar for being the first to notice that change

Well I thought things were going together a little too easy. The ignition switch I decided to use worked ok in a dummy assembly , however when all wired up it is not connecting one wire leading back to the ignition module, so I have stripped it apart to see if I can make it switch the correct combo of wires.I dont want to use the orginal much larger switch with the steering lock.

Because I wanted some more space to hide ugly wiring ect, I purchased a "Antigravity Battery", I have used these in my other big twins and big single bikes and they have no problem in cranking the bikes over all day long, they do not require trickle charging either if left for long periods . They have a 5 year warranty and are a tremendous weight saving as well.

A pressure pack can of Enamel, Black gloss, high temp, brake caliper paint from the local supercheap (car parts) store. Cleaned engine with a pressure pack can of brake cleaner, removed all shit that I did not want glossed, then in about 1 and a half stubbies of beer and three quarters of the spray can, I had the desired result. Not a pisspotical in sight

TIP: do a lot of light coats and wait till it gets tacky before applying the next light coat... heavy coats drip and look shit.
