Bars conversion time
Can anyone offer some advice please.
After 9 years of ownership, my TRX is leaving me ......... cos the girlfriend is taking it away from me!
But, as I have the R1 front end she is finding it awkward at low speed, so we have decided to try and fit a "streetfighter" style top yoke with more conventional bars, rather than the LSL's that it currently has.
So, has anyone else done this with their TRX (preferably one that has R1 forks in it), and if so, can you give me any pointers of where to source the top yoke, cable lengths required, any trimming of bodywork required etc etc.

Not intending to mess it up, but if we don't do something with the bars whilst she is gaining experience of riding (she only passed her test last year), its not going to be nice for much longer.
Problem is that she isn't very tall. Reaches the ground ok, but the stretch to the bars is a long way, so low speed manoevering is always a tippy toe affair. With a more upright riding position, she will have better low speed control, gain better experience of staying on board, and maybe one day we'll be able to put the LSL bars back on again.
In the mean time we need to sort out a better position. I'm hoping that with the right conversion and bars, I don't have to cut or trim the fairing, indeed I would prefer to fit lockstop limiters instead. Looking at the side view, I suspect TDM style bars might give enough room, just need to know if anyone has attempted a streetfighter conversion on their R1 front TRX's.

mike, why not pick up a cheap TRX for your missus to gain experience on
yours is immaculate, you've spent a lot of time and effort sorting it, would be a shame to make changes now
this would be a piece of piss for a guy with your mechanical brilliance

sorry if you had to wait Ive just seen this ,,,,all i did was were the bolt goes though the top yoke to pick up the clipon i used this hole to bolt the bar risers on i used a 8mm stainless cap head , now the bar rizer comes with two holes to bolt it down one at the front and one at the back i drilled and tapped one in the centre but it goes in about 25mm , and its 8mm thick so there is no way its going anywhere,, i used a clutch cable from the streetfighter store but its a bit to long , you may get away with your wiring but a altered mine as it was faulty when i got the bike ,,your brake lines wont be long enough and you will have to alter your fairing if you need any more info give us a shout
ps go to nearly finished for some more shots

Aside from the fact she likes the bike, as I already have 4 bikes to my name, buying and storing another one just seems a bit ..... over the top?
The bike is already with Andrea in Germany now, so we want to make use of it. If possible, I don't want to chop chunks out of the fairing, so might conside a conventional light and fly screen arrangement.
Once she has gained enough experience and wants her own bike, I can revert the TRX back to the way it is now.

when i saw your bike i knew i had to fit the r1 front end it looks so good ,that was about three years ago,,, how do you find your forks ? iam going to fit some race tech valves in mine soon

How do I find them?
well if I walk around to the front of the bike ...bang! there they are, happens every time!!!!
Seriously, I find them excellent, however being on the well built side, I went to K-Tech for some suspension fettling, and I now have ZX6R springs fitted, as the stock R1 springs were a touch soft, used to bottom the front end under heavy braking.
Other than that, they make the bike feel precise and planted, especially when pushing on a bit. To be honest, Yamaha should have fitted them from new if it was a sportsbike they were after in the TRX.
Where did you get your bar risers from?

Down here in Aust there is a mob called AUSFR.com.au
They seem to do a bit of well made street fighter stuff for TRXs. they sell a kit called comfort rider . The kit cost about Au $750.00. and includes all the necessary parts to make the con version. smaller screen,new levers and mirrors, new tipple clamp, handle bars, braided brake lines ect: Look up their web site and make an inquiry. Hope i have been some Help
