harris bellypans

Post by billy budge » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:16 am

Just a minor problem compared to most but none the less its getting on my tits now!!!!

The harris bellypan that im trying to fit is proving to be a challenge with the after market header pipes in place, it goes on no probs with standard headers as they are so weeny in diameter in comparison.
Trixynut very kindly (thankyou) gave me all the info on how best to fit it but the pan sits on the pipes no matter what, which is no good whatsoever.
Can fit it lower down but then ground clearance becomes quite a problem too. Looked at the pferrer stuff again today and it looks like i maybe shouldve gone that route, but again not sure if that one fits ok with my headers....AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Anyone got a harris bellypan and larger header pipes, if so i would really appreciate some feedback as im buggered now.

Cheers.

I used to have a Harris bellypan (sold it becasue I don't actually like the look of them) and cut semi cirlce sections of the bellypan out so that it wouldn't touch the headers and could be moved back enouh. Also made small extentions (only about 1cm) to lower the pan at the front and also made a bracket to attach to the sump (nothing clever - just a strip with a couple of 90 degree bends)

In fact, I had to do the same with my current bellypan - no issues with ground clearance.

Can take some pics if you are interested?

Mate,
I'd suggest its either extension brackets like Phuk sez, but this could still put it too low/make it look shite so cutting the belltpan would be a better option. Where's it touching: at the second bend in the headers where they go underneath or at the sides or where? You can have a pretty close fit (2mm?) with some heat reflective foil lining, but not touching AT ALL else you'll melt it. Been there, done that!
Dave.

Thanks boys, you have made a very bad and emotional day (long story) heaps better. I couldnt see the woods for the trees as they say, the idea of cutting sections out is genius and never even crossed my mind.

Pete - pics would be lovely if its no bother for you.

Dave - it touches on the 2nd curve at the sump area but only on the right habd side pipe for some reason, its on dead level too??!! But it would melt bigtime if i used it as its touching with a fair bit of pressure, the left hand side aint too far away either really.

Many many thanks again, time for the dremmel to come out and play!!

BB

sorry it's taken so long

Here's a (crappy) picture of the extention - just a simple piece of metal, a couple of holoes drilled and a bit of threaded tube (or you could use a nut) tacked on. You should get the idea

And here's the belly pan

Piss off or I'll add them to your box of bits

They'll be gone soon - have got stainless bolts to go in as soon as the engine has been painted
