Well, managed to bag meself a second-hand Hagon shock: done about 3,000 miles so should be fresher than the 17,000 mile standard one on the bike at the minute..

These aren't the most expensive shocks (about £300 new) but it's got preload adjustment via a threaded collar and combined compression/rebound adjustment and was originally ordered with a spring suitable for a rider of my weight fortunately...

No probs: presume you want a measurement from centre of top mounting hole to centre of bottom mounting hole?

Best I can measure it to, eye centre to eye centre is 345mm, thats 345mm.

New shock was fitted for the trackday at Silverstone and performed well. Never done Silverstone before so couldn't really compare it to how the bike was with the old one though.

Left all the settings as it came to me as the guy whos bike it came off is about the same size as me, and it seemed fine: definitely smoother through the corners.

I did wind up the spring preload a couple of turns for one session just to see if it made a difference, and it was much harsher, so wound it back to where it was!

Suspension settings are a black art to me: I understand the basics, but it's difficult to feel the differences when I make adjustments to compression and rebound (unless I go from max to min!) but it's gotta be better than my old one that had covered 18,000 miles.
