More OOOMPH!

Whilst riding home from work this week I came across a modded Evo who wanted to play. we were on an A road and from about 50MPH all i could do was keep up (and as the speed picked up he would have walked away but for traffic). Also met an S4 on the road and suffered the same fate, he pulled over and i couldn't get past!
I want more power but don't want another ZX-9R. don't have a massive budget either. current bike is stock so, what'll make the most difference for the least cash? I've heard the zorsts are pretty restrictive, would new cans be enough to get a notable hike in performance?
i'm not looking for more top end necessarily, just a bit better acceleration. I considered swapping sprockets but that wouldn't allow it to rev any quicker and would also lose me top end performance (and i reckon 135mph is slow enough).
it would pain me to replace the bike - i love it. just lacks a little oomph, so please, don't be backward coming forward

Best 'easy' mod to up power is Keihin FCR flatslide carbs + decent cans + k&N/Ramair or similar air filters. Goes something like this...

Standard bike 76-ish bhp
add Cans Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£100 on ebay + 5bhp (may need new carb jets)
add carbs Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£350 (second hand, if you can find some!) & filter Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£40 +10bhp
add TPS wiring mod Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£free + 1-2bhp

Next you get into new cams/big bore/gas flowed head/porting work i.e. engine internal stuff.

My bike has a full exhaust system (headers and cans) FCR carbs, ramair pod filters, tps modification and clocks in on the dyno at 90bhp.

With a one tooth less front sprocket, it tops out about 140mph, but gets there a whole load quicker!!

I've out-dragged everything on the road on 4 wheels if they wanted to 'have a go' except an Evo, but it was one of those 400bhp jobs!!

Mine is geared down one tooth on the front and still gets to 135 no problem. I'll bet that it gets there quicker too. It's essentially standard other than cans and K&N filter.

there's only one thing Ive had that will piss on the evo and that's the R1 .the evo like you said has 400bhp and with that sort of power i doubt any Trixy would live with an evo ,,but should you be getting your jollys from going that fast ? if you do i bet if you listen closely you will be able to here your licence ticking away like a time bomb in your pocket ,if you need loads more power get a faster bike ..i.e R1, ZX9R , BLADE, bla, bla, bla ..Trixy is one of the best real world bikes Ive had on the road and trust me Ive had loads ,,, you can do loads of mods to trixy ,,a lot of lads have ,but gaining 15bhp is not going to be enough , not to dust the evo with a good driver!! just my 2 cents..

i have found that putting a 2 into 1 system on my trixy has done the job.
also drill out the air box that helps loads.
mine now pulls like it's got a purpose.
as for the 2 into 1 system mine is part self built and part bought so you need to be a bit handy with the stainless mig welding to make it work right.

cheers Dave. i like the sound of 6-7bhp for Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£100. any recommended cans for that sort of money?
what's the TPS wiring mod?
carbs & K&N's are a bit too pricey for my budget - nice to dream tho...

i don't mind topping out at 135mph, i just want to get there faster. the bike seems a little slow revving from 6-8000rpm. so long as i get to 120/130 before the car does i'm happy to pull in and give them the thumbs up as they come cruising past. what hurt was giving the guy the thumbs up as he pulled in and slowed to let ME past

i disagree that just because you go fast that your license is a ticking timebomb though. i used to take the ZX-9R to silly speeds often and was never once stopped. i just picked the times and places wisely and kept my eyes open. Of course with all the camera vans these days, times are rapidly changing.

IMHO, if you want to go fast in a straight line you are completely missing the point

If you want extra speed, sell the TRX and buy a Thunderace

Otherwise accept the TRX for what it is and enjoy the bends!

i used the tdm sport 2 into 1 front end bit i got from the net, then had a titanium can made the hard bit was the join tube but i made that and i got lots of 2 inch stainless tube and my mig welder.
the air box is the easy bit, take the tank off the the air box.
ONLY drill holes in the air box FORWARD of the air filter and on the top of the box (so no rain will get in and you still have the use of the filter).

Phuk, I agree that it's the whole package: power and handling, but...

...if some tw@t in a scooby with a big pipe is next to you at the lghts, you're gonna have a go!

Pinball, most cans are the same IMHO, but get some dyno time to set up, and an air filter.

Some smart carbon Micron cans just sold on ebay for Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£50!! absolute steal!! Full system is better, like an acra, but pricey.

I just think that cars are not worth messing with because they can Fu*k you up beacause there not aware of there surroundings. You wil always end up passing them as they sit in traffic waiting to get into Hlafords car park.

for me the TRX is all about the bendy bits not the straight line speed ,, also the running costs are about half that of an R1

i didn't realise that acceleration only applied to straight lines phuk

i'm not after 180mph, even LOSING a few MPH would be ok but i want more go, especially at the top of the revs where it just seems to climb so slooooowly.

I appreciate all the comments regarding 'messing with cars' but i just can't help myself (some things will never change

). i DO enjoy the handling and i play hardest in the bends but i'm just hoping that a change of zorst, drilled airbox, TPS mod & a new sprocket or two will keep me playing for a little longer - it would be a shame to have to kick a lifetime's habit!

rct - as you have some pipe left over and a mig welder...

perhaps we can come to some sort of arrangement

my trx dont do 135mph and just about hits 130, even with one tooth of the front it takes forever to get from 125 to 130 and if the wind picks up it slows down again, is mine broke, but as others have said them speeds is not the reason I bought the bike I can go into bends with more confidence on the bike plus drive out the other end harder on the twistys, its the most fun bike I have owned
