R1 forks with yzf750 wheel
Hi guys, just wondering if any major issues running a yzf750 front wheel, and 6 pot calipers on a 2000 r1 front end? a funny thing to do, just wondering if I can pass the r1 off as a yzf item for pre modern racing. I don't think they will pick it if they see the big 90s six pots, as they look similer just the r1 a bit shorter, and fork tube a larger diameter I think. Also can the speedo drive be made to work off the yzf wheel, by taking some meat of the inner fork leg of the r1 ? Thanks for any help.

Different looking calliper mount too on the r1 forks as the yzf750 mount needs modifying to for blue spots so it is probably thicker .. As well as the 320mm disc on the yzf750 and 300 mm R1 .. yzf750 wheel disc bolt patterns the same as the Trx 300mm so at least that's interchangeable. The yzf750 bottom tree is also 2mm larger (56?)than the r1. (54?) from memory.
Offset on the trees differ too so a few ways to pick the difference .

Aaaaannnndddd...
from someone who's actually done it (put a YZF wheel into R1 forks) here's how it works-
The wheel goes straight in using the R1 spindle but you need to either machine the left side fork bottom down to take the speedo drive or just use a simple spacer which shouldn't be too much of a chew seeing as how you'll be racing and don't need a speedo.
The YZF 320mm discs and TRX discs have the same offset (10mm). We know that R1 calipers work on TRXs, and R1 calipers work on YZF front ends with a little tickle. What can we surmise from this? That 6 pots will work on R1 forks with a YZF wheel and TRX discs, that's what. It is true that you need to machine/relieve the YZF fork bottoms to take the R1 calipers but that's only because the R1 calipers' trailing piston is larger and needs more clearance around the fork bottom but seeing as how you're wanting to use YZF calipers on R1 forks you shouldn't need to file or machine anything down. It should all bolt up once the wheel's centralised in the forks.
I've only used 'should' instead of 'will' in that second paragraph because I haven't actually tried it myself.
Do let us know how you got on, please.

Re: R1 forks with yzf750 wheel
Thanks Kayla, I think ill give it a go, just got to get some calipers and a yzf wheel or two. Still got plenty to do to the engine to try and maybe keep with the yzf750s,zxr750s,cbr900s,and sell my race bike. But soon as I get around to it ill post here how I go. Cheers.
