Donington 15th Sept
Just booked this with Focused events, havent done one of their chrono events yet so will be interesting to see how it works.
Its a quiet day 98db si have been repacking can and modifying the insert. I think i should be ok as it was 99db before the mods and it sounds much quieter now.

Its cheap for Croft!
If you fancy it be quick because as of this morning the inters was full, the fast group had 4 spaces and there were 12 left in the novice/inters.
we are in the novice/inters. I would have preferred the Inters but it was full

Re: Donington 15th Sept
I cant do it its midweek and a zillion miles away.
I already had my staying away quota this year at Anglesey and thats closer than Croft!
May do another Cadwell later on this year.
Is croft good?

Re: Donington 15th Sept
let me know if you book up Cadwell this year
Croft is excellent. its fast, the TRX can get get mullered on the two straights but its good in the fast sweepers.
its pan flat compared to cadwell so I think its easier to get to grips with in my opinion

Re: Donington 15th Sept
Had a great day at donington. The 98Db noise restriction was a bit of a farce. There was no static noise test, just a little pep talk about making sure we all had a baffle in. About a dozen bikes i saw had no baffle at all. There was supposedly a drive by test, but i saw no evidence at all. In the afternoon i was watching a chap on a ZX6 which was extremely noisy being followed by an instructor for a whole session.
The Maxxis rear that i am now using was extremely good and looks like it will last a bit better than the supercorsas. Seems to warm up quickly and provides loads of grip. Rubber moves across nicely and no tearing. Slight graining but nice and clean. Very impressive for £86 tyre. Focused seem to have a new manager and he said he loved the sound of the trx going down the straight. and thought i was keeping a very good pace in the inters, so was chuffed with that.
Had a trip through the gravel at redgate, but kept it upright. All those years of off roading might be coming good.

Re: Donington 15th Sept
I'm from the far north east of Scotland so most of my track riding will be at Knockhill racing circuit. Are you lads running standard gearing or have you dropped a tooth on the front? The rubber chain guard around my swinging arm is well worn so I plan on putting a bigger sprocket on the front and rear to give better acceleration and less wear on the rubber. What gear ratios have you found best so far?

Re: Donington 15th Sept
For my track riding i don't think it makes much odds. I went to Mallory last week and was in 5th all down straight and round gerrards. Its prob worth going down one tooth on the front sprocket, but at circuits like Bedford (going next tuesday) i just cruise down the 1 Km straight as top speed is way down on most of the other bikes so why cane the life out of it. We aren't going out to win anything just to have fun so go with what you think will suit most of your riding. I would have thought knock hill is not particularly fast so down one at the front sprocket is a good start.
And buy a new chain guide!
But most of all have fun.

Re: Donington 15th Sept
The Hairpin at Knockhill has been widened considerably recently so I'm guessing a tooth down from stock on the front and you'll probably still be using second at the hairpin. It's been a long time since I lapped Knockhill on a tuned RD350 LC - only once got below a minute lap - I'd be interested to see what a TRX would do........

Re: Donington 15th Sept
Going back down there on the 25th October so I'll let you know how I get on. Boiled the brake fluid on my last outing and still had the standard exhausts on. Two into one under seat pipe now fitted, carbs sonic cleaned, running an R1 front end, yzf750 6pots, thunderace 5.5 rear wheel now so finally got some sticky rubber. Going to get it set up properly on the dyno with k & n air filter but not planning on any major engine mods. Clutch is about at the end of its life so gonna fix it before next track day too. As you know the Rex ain't fast down the straights so just gonna have fun out braking the 600s and using her drive out of the corners. Cheers for yer input

Re: Donington 15th Sept
i had clutch problems and i fitted a kevlar street racer kit from EBC, that cured it. I was getting a bit of slip when gunning it out of corners. I judst got springs and friction plates. The original parts were all within spec.
