Help! TRX pissing oil everywhere... :(
Got to work this morning to find oil all over the back tyre, the top of the rear hugger, both sides of the swingarm, the rear brake, the shock linkage, the belly pan going back from the bit of the exhaust where the downpipes meet (around the gearbox area) and the sidestand switch. There's no oil on the cases at all, the drain plugs are both good, no oil on the oil filter cover and yes, the filler cap is on.
Could this be the seal on the gearbox output shaft or the selector rod? I did remove the two plastic sprocket covers last weekend to check the sprocket was properly secure and cleaned out a lot of gunk at that point. Didn't see any streams of oil then, and did not see any this morning when I started the bike, however it may have been leaking already, as I noticed the back brake wasn't working very well. There has been a bit of unusual vibration recently, but I assumed it was a loose spot in the (nearly new!) chain, or that the cam chain which was installed recently wasn't tensioning properly.
Anyone have any idea what the likely cause is?

I am actually carrying a bottle of oil under the seat. And that might explain why the oil on the swingarm was very fresh.
That would be a good result. I shall go and check.

So let that be a lesson for all of you!
I shall bimble back carefully trying not to slide sideways into a hedge and hoping that my rear tyre recovers.

Good! Well, it is easily fixed, isn't it?
Be carefull, besides the tyre the rear brake doesn't like oil too!
Like I said, I had the same. It was on the YZF and I was very very lucky that I had that hugger on the swingarm, that saved most oil getting on the rear tyre. Don't want to think about what could have happend

You lucky bugger! You've gone from a suspected blown engine to a leaky bottle!!
I had the same thing with a can of Red Bull stored under the seat: vibrated, exploded, spilled over exhausts, heated up, burnt, stunk, caused a lot of "WTF is that" headscratching and was a bitch to clean off!!

Btw, since the above mentioned incident I use ductape to secure the top to the bottle.
(Because it's still important to carry oil reserves with our bikes...)

Hahahaha, glad to hear all is ok. Would have truly been an "oh crap!" moment, great thing it was just a moment. Good luck with the clean up.

I did wonder why the back tyre was stepping out during my commute. Luckily I decided to keep it steady!JL wrote:Hahahaha, glad to hear all is ok. Would have truly been an "oh crap!" moment, great thing it was just a moment. Good luck with the clean up.

Re: Help! TRX pissing oil everywhere... :(
pheeewwww, a result I think ?
I had 2 cans of pop under my seat last month, both burst before I reached my destination. I wrap stuff like that in a rag now to stop it rattling about too much. If it still leaks then maybe the rag will soak the majority of what ever it is up.

Hmmm ... are we supposed to carry spare oil around with us then?
Why ?

Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.
