Depends on where you hang your hat... I live in Adelaide, South Oz and the coldest it gets here overnight in winter is 6 to 8 degC and in summer the days can be 35 to 40degC. According to the owners manual 20w-50 is spot on for that temp range.
If by some misfortune you live in the frozen wastes for Scandanavia or the incessant rain of the "old dart" 10w-40 is better. One thing for sure the TRX or at least my TRX hates light weight synthetic oils.

tanks DFH, i live in the UK which of course is balmy and lovely weatherwise  or shud that be barmy.... Is 'Old Dart' a slang name fer the UK ??? My TDM don't really like lightweight semi or fully synth oils either, having said that i have used very little over the last 700 miles or so, maybe 100/150 ml. WiCkY

Wicky, i have used Motul 5100 in 10/40 for the last
3 years with great results, i did try some others but the gearbox didnt like them when hot.
All the best

??
I would use 20w50 if I could find a decent brand and semi-synth.
Used 10w40 Putoline in the Rex tho.

just put some 10w40 (i think ?) fully synth in the TR1X.. and it has a very noticable clacking sound.. almost sounds like there is a hole in the exhaust.. i figgure its the engine because i went from a thick to a thin fully synth.. keep checking it,, all is ok.. but yer..

DFH: when we hookin up for a ride ?

wanna come to mallala for a track day on the 8th ? the TR1X should be there, and i have a camera mount for the tank.. so i can prolly bolt it to mine for one session, then bolt it to yours for another session.. what ya think ?

see how we go.. would be good to compare notes on eachother and what not..
