If anyone out there has ever fitted either of these guages I would appreciate it if they could advise me on how to go about it as I,ve only had the bike for 5 weeks(01 trx850 black/staintunes/k&n filter/belly pan/
V2 cams/dynojet kit/ 16,000k,s and love it)This is my 27th bike and its great fun.I,m also interested in any performance modifications that do not detract from the bikes appearance or tractability.
I dont want to fit flatslides just get a bit more grunt
Regards
Ken

Hi Ken

I've moved this to the Questions section as that's probably the most appropriate place.

Oh yeah - and welcome to the site (you found it ok then :D)

Welcome aboard Ken.

What makes you think that flatslides won't improve tractability and improve grunt? In my experience they give a TRX more of both with better throttle response to boot! :D

It worries me that fitting flatslides could cause other problems and then my bike won,t be fun anymore and I will have wasted my money.

It's a lot of money, but there are no draw-backs whatsoever, except maybe for the fact that You have to be a bit more delicate on cranking the throttle open in some situations, but that's easily learned...

For flastslides:

more power (lots more)
better throttle response

Against flatslides:

cost
no choke
fiddling needed if airbox is to be retained
may need to mod TPS (if TRX specific flatslides not purchased)
lower mpg

Appappapp...
Depends on what flatslides!
Cost is obvious, but:
-Mikunis TDMRs have choke
-www.topham has conversion kits for TDMR/original airbox, included in the carb kit from them
-TPS, agree
-lower mpg, not so sure about that, they are more efficient, on the other hand I guess one tends to use the engine a bit differently after the switch, just for the hell of it, but that's what happens with every tuning effort, so yes, mpg might decrease...

So, I'd still say, generally speaking, without taking pros and cons of different brands into account, the only drawback between CVs and flatslides is the price. But like You have stated somewhere else, it's probably the most worthwhile mod in terms of £/bhp!

I wasn't talking aout TDMRs because as everyone knows they are a waste of money compared to FCR41

Can just add a story from well known Swedish tuner "MP Racing"....
Was talking to him about taking on my kent cams etc etc....and he asked me what type of carbs i had....
Keihin 41´s of course was the answer.....and he said....
He had a TDM with 41´s in the shop and those carbs on WOT just killed the spark....really hesitation and a bike wich did not run as it should....

He installed dynotek coils with a little bigger sparkplug gap and voila....the TDM runned as a dream.

So you should give the ignition a workaround also!

Hepp!
