Yeah I know it's not very exciting, but it was bound to crop up eventually, so......

.....I need some new tyres. Going for 120/70/17 and 160/60/17 and my riding is fast road with a few track days, generally in the dry.

Recommendations please anyone

I have to praise the Sportec M3s, grippy, also in the wet, lasting extremely well for being a sports tyre, 8000 kms so far and still not illegal, although the rear is near eol... 7 trackdays (no, not being the fastest ) and quite a lot of transportation kms to and from tracks) I know the M1s are being thrown out for good prices, but although being a good tyre, it won't give You as many kms, and it's probably more economical to buy the M3 instead. I guess the Power 2CTs are in the same ballpark, but haven't tried them myself.

As i haven´t anything to compare with i probably should shut up, but i just think that the qualifiers are just GREAT!
They did the ´06 euro sportbiketest on these and all the drivers where surprised in how well they performed....and they are pro´s!

I got them VERY cheap in Germany, half price compared to Sweden actually....will probably go with them again when they are thru!

Metzler Racetecs all the way - you will not regret it (or the sticky Pirelli Corsas - essentially the same tyre and bloody great.)

My faves have always been Rennsports but the new Racetecs are even better.

I presently have super sticky just about legal Avon SP Pro Extremes on the bike which are great for track days but crap in the cold and in the wet as you can't keep the heat in them (I rode like a learner with them last time it rained and the back was still sliding!)

I love the Pirelli Diablos, but have no experience of them on the TRX.

I have Michelin Pilot Roads on the TRX and they are excellent and wear really well. Interestingly Bike magazine recently did a comparative test between Track, Sport, and Road Tyres, and most riders preferred the Road tyres on the road in preference to the Sport tyre, despite the Sport tyre being the 'obvious' choice.

I can understand that - if you look at the profile of tyres like Racetecs they are very 'pointy' compared with road tyres as it makes dropping the bike on it's side easier and increases the contact patch when cranked over. the down side is that track tyres can feel a bit twitchy and are harder to keep heat in

Still got Macadams on at the moment, which aren't as bad as some say, but there's definitely better out there!

Don't know about the newer versions but I never got on with Bridgestones. I found 010s were shit in the cold and the wet and only half decent on the track and 020s downright scary (especially when they had worn down a bit)

I'm going with the Diablo Corsas next time around as it doesn't look like mine will be back on the track any time soon (usually use Super Corsa Pros). The thing I love about the Pirellis is the soft carcus construction that makes dated (and basically stock) suspension feel 100% better.
