The genuine Yamaha item has a shakeproof shim plate as part of its construction.

And that is the crux of the problem. When those "shakeproof" tangs wear, the nut is able to work its way loose unless regularly monitored or threadlocked. As stated before the nut is a piece of crap and poorly designed.

And yet again,another bloody nail. I didn't see this one coming as I was going thru a dark motorway underpass 2km from home, but I sure as hell heard it. Again in the near new rear. Whatever it was it punctured the tyre at the bottom of the tread groove. I rang the bike shop y'day and they said that 'cos of the position of the puncture it might be able to be repaired. If not they have a nice new Pilot Road2 in stock in my size.

Took the wheel off this morning and tyre has not gone down much so it must be a very slow leak. You can see it slightly bubble up when you spray water on it. Damn, this is getting annoying - and expensive!

Well Max, the shop put an internal plug in it, and its nearly as good as new. just finished putting it all back together about an hour ago. Wasn't gonna let a near new Pilot Power go without a fight. Now just waiting for my new Oberon CNC milled gold anodised racing footpegs to turn up in the post (yee ha)

Well the footpegs turned up today. Look total bling! Were on the the bike within the hour. Very happy And the tyre is up

Yes Dave my tyre problems were very much small potatoes compared to some of the stuff on that webpage. Just shows how ignorant (or stupid) some people are!
