Speed governer

I have a Japanese spec model. Apparently it has a governer fitted to prevent speeds above 180. The difference with mine now is that it has an electronic speedo and the oem one is obsolete. In fact sits at a 0 at all times as the cable is disconnect.
Question: The governer should now be tricked into thinking the bike is at 0 k an hour? This should allow speeds above 200 I believe. Thoughts?

No not quite. They figured people may try and get around this by just disconnecting the speedo cable. But how it all works is they have placed magnetic sensors at 0kph and another at 180kph that are picked up as the needle revolves around the dial.
But you may be in luck with your new ignition system inplace, because those sensors send signal back to the ECU to govern the motor.
There's a good chance when you look at the multipin connectors on the new ignitor you may find one extra on your trx wiring loom and hopefully there will not be one corresponding on the ignitor loom to trigger the limiter.
l didn't get a chance to do over 180kph down my 50kph street when I took your bike for a ride after fitting the programable ignition

Mine has a MPH speedo fitted so no magnets (if that affects the Japanese CDI), and it was limited in top speed by the 7K RPM barrier at about 115MPH with 17/42t sprockets. With a green stickered CDI there are no limits, and it's a cheap enough thing to fit.

Guess there only one way to find out. Push it over 200. Cobba it does make sense not have a limit on the new ignitor. Will have look.

You can buy a small "bypass cable" of sorts that is meant to de-limit the Japanese spec bikes, I dont think I've seen any on ebay though. Most of them all come from japan from what I've seen

Mine has a mystery grey box behind the clocks, apparently they work (to remove the 7K RPM limit) when the speedo is the correct Japanese one but when the speedo is changed the CDI reverts to its default limits. I would happily sell that little box if anyone wants it? No use to me and quite an interesting little gadget if you like that sort of thing! It plus in between the wires going to/from the tacho.
