fitting r6 swing arm into trx

hi there new to the forum, but had bikes all my life. just dont like using computers.
anyway im just wondering if anybody has fitted or tried to fit a yamaha r6 swinging arm from a 2006 or 2008, and what issues were had, not expecting a straight swap but got some big plans for my first trx.

Hi and Welcome.

R6 and R1 swinging arms are very long and are designed to be fitted behind R6 and R1 engines(very short with stacked gearboxes)
If you want to create an engineering showpiece, good luck. If you're after any theoretical gain, don't bother :)

This is also the reasoning behind revalving your R6 shock fitted to a TRX to get the most from the shock. It may seem like an improvement with The rear spring being a little heavier and the shock not done as much compared to your tired smaller bodied 15 yr + old std TRX shock .

Hi, Thanks for the info truth is I'm only looking for aesthetics but not comprising safety I just find the 2008 R6 a good looking swinging arm. Do you know if the width pivot end is similar to that of the TRX or are there issues to be had with that too? Its nice to be able to ask and not go through the expense of purchasing it just to end up putting it in the bin. I have solid plans for the front end, body work and just looking for assistance with a different swinging arm.

I have the R6 arm here which I was going to put into my TRX.
Pivot width is not an issue, the issue is length and the R6 arm is considerably longer.
The only practical way to shorten it would be just in front of the axle mounts but that also means reshaping the to brace spar down.
I opted for the RSV arm in the end as it was a much easier conversion with better aesthetics (imo)

Thanks when you say RSV is that the Aprilla ? what year /model did you use and what mods required to fit? are there any photos of your bike with the swinging arm fitted on this forum.

Yes Aprilia RSV and it's an 03 one..before they got angular
The Aprilia linkage mount is offset to one side so just required a little of machining to make up a press fit spacer.
There is a build thread on here somewhere showing all pics... Bike was also in the Practical Sportsbike feature last month

Thank you very much for the help,and yes you are right the RSV swinging arm does look better, have located and bought an 03 RSV swinger and looking forward to getting my hands on it. Can, as I hope, adapt the TRX rear wheel and rear brake into the RSV arm or will I require something else, can't thank you enough for your help and advice with this modification - it has no doubt saved me a lot of un-necessary work
