Injectting a TRX

I'm toying with the idea of converting my TRX 878 (big bore - JP piston conversion with Overexhausts) from Carb to Injection..
Has anyone already put injectors on a TRX (eg the TDM900 injectors, or a kit of some kind - if such a thing exists)

search for a thread by Quantime.
He did it, but be warned, very technical!

If you are after the challenge of fuel injection, go onward young man

If you want horsepower, follow the well worn path of 41mm FCRs and you will be a very happy TRXer

Just sayin is all.
Cheers

See what you mean by technical... So it's a choice I guess... Big technical project resulting, once it's mapped, in self regulating fueling vs easy project - mikuni tdmr-B11 kit, with some tuning challenges. Some thought needed. Thanks guys.

The Miks only go to 40 mm, the Keihin`s being 41 mm give you the biggest bang per buck. Quans injection system might well give better fuelling and even, `maybe`, better absolute BHP but you can whip off the Keihins and fettle them in minutes, a ferked injector is non rebuildable and would need replacement.
I know what I prefer.

Thanks Mincehead..
I went and discussed this with a Yamaha mecanic who also had a TRX and tried the Keihins (incidently it was his conversion of the FRZ1000 rear wheel that now carries the 180/55 on my TRX). His comment was that the 41mm Keihins were great if the intention is to race - but that, for him, it spoiled the "sweetness" that makes the TRX motor such a pleasure to ride and maked it really hard work around town.. he really likes my TTS Big Bore conversion - which he didn't install - for the instant torque it delivers. My biggest issue here in Switzerland is that type approval is so tight that any conversion needs to be invisible or submitted for full inspection by the authorities, unless they already have a Swiss type approval, and be registered against the details of the bike.
The Mikuni kit would fit the invisible category - they are Mikunis like the OEM cabs, connected to the existing Airbox and have the added advantage that they are TüV approved in Germany for road use (no guarantee that they would pass in Switzerland but certainly a much better chance than the Keihins would have with their stacks and individual filters)... but given "my" mechaic's scepticisom about the characteristics of flat-slides in general on a TRX and the cost of the kit I'll probably stick with the CVs unless I "go injection". Injection I would be happy to submit for testing as with standard mapping it would ceratinly have better emmmision charateristics than any Flatslide.. so unless someone says "the mikunis are terrific, easy to fit and adjust" - something that can't be said about the stock CVs (simply changing the throttle cable on those bitches is a nightmare and the location of the mixture screws is crazy) - I'll dig depper into injection.

We`re VERY lucky in the UK not to be `strangled` by all that pish of type approval etc.
I know what the TUV business is like from personal experience of working in a precision engineering environment with pressure vessels and flow metering devices.
ALL the welds had to be Xray`ed which in turn made the devices very long winded to manufacture and expensive too.
Most of it is regulatory mullarkey to keep folk in profitable business, there`s a whole industry behind all that testing, regulation and accountability.
Lots of folk in well paid jobs and plenty of goons installed in high places keeping it all sweet between them too.

Thing is Mince, that if the EU gets its way on their "Type Approval" / Anti Tampering laws that they're looking at just now, anyone wanting to modify anything on the power train (from intake to exhaust/final drive) would be breaking the law.
The term "Modify" meaning anything other than how it left the factory, no changing carbs, no playing with sprocket sizes, not even adding a K&N into a standard airbox. I believe it even restricts the tyre choices to those recommended by the manufacturer (which could mean that anything other than an already obsolete tyre could be considered illegal for older bikes).
I know that MAG in the UK are lobbying against this in Brussels, and a number of their European counterparts are doing the same.

Yes it`s been discussed in depth on here already, I`ll NEVER comply with such shite, I`ll ride illegally before I succomb to such nonsense.
FFS you won`t even be able to improve your bike with braided hoses, better brakes calipers, even extra lights (if you`re into all that).
Fecking ridiculous but all part of a global push to make motorcycles less `attractive` to the masses.
