R6 Rear Shock modification

Hi everyone
Hope you knowledgeable TRX owners can help me?
I am looking to upgrade the rear shock on my 1996 TRX with an R6 unit. I have seen a 2012 R6 shock that has a black spring that I am thinking of buying. It has what I would describe as the tuning fork base that the R6/TRX adaptor fits. Can anyone explain the spring colours to me. I have seen R6 shocks with yellow and red springs but none with black. I'm guessing that the colour denotes the spring rating. Hopefully black is for the more weighty 200lb+ person.
Other than the adaptor are there any other mods I would need to carry out i.e. linkages etc for it to fit.
Any advice on settings would also be helpful.
Many thanks.

I am currently fitting a 2012 r6 shock with red spring.
I think spring colour is more to do with where the bike originates (euro/uk etc) as there are a lot of import R6's being turned into race bikes.
Spring rates are usually printed on spring.
As for lining up on TRX I lined mine up last night and there is a rectifier(I think) under the battery box which will need relocating but other than that easy... mine is linking to an RSV swingarm but through standard TRX lingages

check out the racetech site... There you can put all the info in on the year /R6 rear shock and it will give you the spring rate and rider weight to suit

not sure if this is the place to discuss sales?
anyway regardless, i'd be interested in your R6 shock. my newly purchased TRX is rust-free apart from the rear shock which has seen better days (although it's still fine to use).
does it have one of those ohlins style adjusters? PM me and we'll wrangle the details.
