Hi all.
I've asked for permission from our moderator/forum guru to post up this info on oil pressure switches :)
As i recently acquired sherlocks old TDM900 :D , i have been reading and posting on Carpe TDM and JBX.
I have been in correspondence with a fellow on the Carpe forum, who makes oil pressure adapters that replace the banjo bolt on the crank feed end left side rear of the cylinders.
It uses a normally closed 0.5bar oil pressure switch and is quite an easy fit with a light straight into the instrument console.

Lee has told me to use a locally available Tridon TPS-048 oil pressure switch with an M10 x 1 thread, but he can go up or down 3mm in thread size depending on which switch you use.
I have two adapters on the way, one for the TRX and one for the 9er.
The TRX/TDM 850 adapters are 5 pound sterling plus post with the 9er bits needing a little more machining so a slightly higher price.

Thanks fung good write-up and as they said clear concise instructions.
Glentrx when he had his bike, he put a red flashing light in the spare spot on his instrument panel, the idea being that interested onlookers wood think it was an alarm. All Glen did had was a switch to set it going. He was going to post up all the details with pictures but someone stole his bike.

I bought this from TRX.DE many moons ago....just have to fit it!! Installs at the oil inlet to head...

I`ve got one too Kw from Eisi if I remember correctly. :wink:
Think I`m going to use mine to perhaps link to a capilliary line into a pressure guage, or maybe a small digital one with an electronic sensor like this:

You may be able to use the adapter you guys have down on the other end of the line where i have been informed the oil pressure is more reliably monitored as it relates to the crank feed rather than cam feed.

are you a punter KW ?
with the form guide spread out, and numbers circled eh [-o<

It is, PUNTER simply means someone who likes to bet but it could be on anything really. In the UK it`s used generically by salespeople too, ie: "I did all I could to get rid of it but the punter wasn`t buying".
Quaint eh? :lol:

It was indeed Eisi that sorted a few of us out with adaptors and VX transporter / bus pressure switches a while back, have found the thread so am posting it on this one too:

I`ve also found what I believe to be the right pressure switch on Evilbay UK:

On that Evilbay listing is all the Vdubs it fits too so it could be easily sourced in any country as those dubs are all over the world! :wink:

Hi It's leehenty dropping by from the TDM forum, it seems we share the same engine design.

The solution used for the TDM 850 was altering a Citroen banjo switch from a 12mm thread to M10 x 1.25 and shortening the switch to 21mm. This will work on the TRX as it shares the same basic engine design as the TDM850 and the XTZ750.

There is also the brass block solution to fit the M10x 1 sensor behind the cylinder block on top of the gearbox as explained on the JBX TDM site. Several bike and cars parts will fit. VW being one of them known to work and an Aprillia sensor the other.

Did anyone find a 2 pin switch suitable for a digital clock ? One what sends the live up to the led ?

Any switch with the correct operating pressure can be used I believe.
If they are two pin they are not earthing under pressure they have an insulated from `earth` connection between the two pins so it could be either a live or a negative connection. :wink:

Why not place an oil pressure gauge in place.
Have a look on the underside of the engine. There is a good spot there .
But in saying that the option of placing a sensor by the cams gives a good indication if pressure is dropped possibly because of a larger clearance on the crank bearings.
Have a look on my rebuild thread as I looked into this when placing my oil temp sensor.
