Don't know why, but the thought popped into my head reading the Turbo threads on here...

I hired a Sprint ST in NZ about a month ago & had a ball, that's a really_really_good engine, in fact the second best part of the ST, the best feature being the mirrors!

Wouldn't be much wider & you'd get 50HP off the bat...

Possible? Pointless? Soul destroying?

That's crazy talk! Of course, you could simply get a 675 Daytona...those things are very easy on the eye and ear

as you say, engines are vey strong

Anything can be done. Beauty of the TRX frame is you can hang pretty much anything under it if you have the capability.
But having ridden a Speedtriple and a 675 daytona, i doubt the TRX could be made to handle as well as either.
I'd only do something like this if my TRX had lunched its motor and i could get an alternative at a good price.

The handling wasn't really up to it on the Sprint, I thought, but that said, I haven't tried the Speed/Street triple or the Daytona for that matter...

Could have something to do with all the extra weight & different bars I guess

The Daytona looks great & is an amazing bike by all accounts, but that riding position looks very punishing!

As someone who's replaced perfectly good engines with bigger/better or just plain different ones myself, I'd say go for it if you really fancy it, I'd recommend a lot of measuring of both engines and frames first, ya know to get as clear an idea as possible how much modifying is gonna be needed to the frame, but like trixynut says you should be able to get just about anything in there if you really wanted to, gotta love steel frames for that

I thought the exact same thoughts when I was deciding what engine to fit in my project. I went with a TDM 900 setup as it was cheap and sort of retains the trx's identity, but the 955 or 1050 lump was top of the list otherwise.

would be very interested to follow a project like this! - get going!

hmm 1050? now theres a thought... a mille twin is another I breifly looked down the tdm900 route with mine as well, then decided I couldn't justify the cost plus dumping a perfectly good running engine out in the process, hence i decided to go turbo lol, but even thats going to be a while now, got a bit of an itch to get the bike running again and spent today persuading some yoshi busa downpipes and a cbr1000 link pipe that they wanted to be my trx's new exhaust until I can be arsed to get the blower going lol

Just to clarify, I won't be doing this! (Unless I throw another big end bearing, but I have been keeping the oil topped up )

Sold my TRX850 for a 1050 Speed Triple- staggering motor- power delivery is just so much fun, triple being similar in concept to the TRX 270 degree crank phase with the conservation of momentum or reciprocating weight urging the process on- in line triple at 120 degrees- not quite as "perfect as the TRX 270 but close in a 3 pack. Just such a fun and easy bike to ride.

Got both a Speed Triple and a TRX in the shed. Cant say I have ever thought of them mating but an interesting thought. Corners do come up mighty quick on the Triumph though so I would certainly like a lot better brakes and front end than my TRX with that much go on tap.

Yep complete R1 front end would be the way to go, maybe even a later radial brake type.
It wouldn`t be too hard to get a 1050 motor slung in the TRX frame but it might not be too pretty as the trumpet motor is wider than the width of the frame rails and it would sit VERY low. I still say a TL1000 motor or Aprilia 1000 motor would be better.

Which then raises the question- when does a trx no longer be a trx- perhaps it becomes a triumaha (pronounced try uumm A ha) or a yamazuki (tl1000 hybrid- with harsh Japanese overtones- as in yamaaaaaaZUKI!) or a yamalia (with dodgy italian accent)? Why bothe just go buy something from another model line up and enjoy the diversity- so much to pick from.

But anyone can have a Triumph tripple or suzuki. Only you and maybe a handful of others will have a WHAT"S THAT ..WOW MAN COOL
You can just be another covers band or tribute band but theres only 1 LED ZEP or PINK FLOYD

The spirit of bike `modifiers` the world over.
I`m also wondering if a VFR750 motor could be persuaded to fit, 105+ bhp and that long lived reliability with gear driven cams would make for a bike you would want to keep for the rest of your days.
Being much lighter than a stock VFR it would be pretty quick too, although for Yamaha purists a Yamonda or Hondaha might be a tad too much.
