Only zx10 shock that comes remotely close to the TRX specs in length and stroke is the 08-10 with a 64mm stroke (TRX 62mm) and about 8mm shorter than the 345mm TRX shock.
07 zx6R is withing a few mm too.
Then look at swing arm length and the rising rate suspension ratios and your damping could be anywhere.

I have a Zx10 shock in the shed and as I was stripping my Trx I test fitted the Zx10 shock as a trial and it fitted in with out a problem. I measured the fright difference and it was not much. The Zx10 also has an asgustable too shock mount so I think mt plan was to mod this slightly with a 10 mm longer threaded stud to get the shocks to the same length.

Aye up.. Spill the beans .. Which year ? Sounds good as I am putting in a modded aprillia swing arm and like the idea of adjustable top mount , as have no idea as yet where my ride height will end up as a result

Have bought an 03 ZX6R shock, going to give this a go. It's about 5mm shorter than the TRX one, but has a stroke of 72.5mm - is that going to be a problem does anyone think?

The stroke is the one measurement you want to keep as close as possible to the std TRX.
130mm rear wheel travel std on a TRX and the relay arm, swing arm/dog bone pivot point and lengths dictates the rising link suspension ratio, so 130mm std TRX travel works out to your 62.5mm stroke of the std TRX shock using the std TRX swing arm, relay arm and linkages.
your only using around 80% of the shocky's stroke so you will find the damping and spring rate way to soft and you will only loose by fitting it.

Ebay wouldn't ship it from the US, so I got a 2009 one from the UK instead - stroke 64.5mm so much closer to the TRX one, length 335mm so got a jack up kit as well.

It didn't - the ZX6R (2010) shock had a top mounted reservoir which fouled the reg/rec - in the end I got my TRX one rebuilt/regassed.

yzf750 shocks fit in but need a jack up kit from kayla to get the ride height back. R6 shocks also fit with an adapter from kayla at projection components as they are a bit short. plenty of examples of them on here if you do a search.
