Then we should ask any of our German members to contact them on our behalf, obviously using the same story of showing interest in buying one of their systems.

Are these happening? If someone's got a knackered bike they can lend me I'll sort it out.

Or, you could try to contact someone who speaks German and has a race system from MAB... Ehrrr... Like MeMincehead wrote:Then we should ask any of our German members to contact them on our behalf, obviously using the same story of showing interest in buying one of their systems.
But i am sceptical about copying the system, how legal (and ethical) is that. Moreover, i won' be interested in a copy. I might be interested in something different, but then it should be a well calculated system, not just some pipes put together just to fit... And for the prices that have been mentioned, i think MAB would be as cheap/expensive. I haven't checked, but i believe a street legal system with mufflers costs around 1000€, the race system sligthly more
As for tapering or not, i believe tapering will be better for torque? KW and i have compared dyno charts, since our engines have similar mods, and although i have Mikunis instead of Kehins (Mikunis should be better for midrange), KW's midrange seems to be better. (I have looked at the shapes of the curves, to eliminate different Dyno conditions)

Why a knackered bike? I'd lend you mine over winter if you were closer.Kayla wrote:Are these happening? If someone's got a knackered bike they can lend me I'll sort it out.
I'm still interested in hearing this going further too ....
Projection Racing 2-1 with Akropovic hex carbon can, Keihin FCRs @ 150 main, R6 shock conversion, 520 chain conversion, Ignitech ignition, Li-po battery. Further weight reduction & front suspension in progress ....

I just thought a knackered bike with a blown engine would be cheaper, or the owner wouldn't mind it being away from their house for a few weeks so much as a decent running bike. A rolling chassis would do.highlander wrote:Why a knackered bike? I'd lend you mine over winter if you were closer.Kayla wrote:Are these happening? Re: Big bore headers available soon
What's the general thinking about these? I can probably get a larger, non-tapered bore 2-1 done for around £275 and a 2-1-2 will be more (I haven't asked about those yet).
Is this a price people are willing to pay for some nice headers? It'll be a sprung system, like this-
That's the SZR660 system they make for me. There won't be cans, just a 2" link pipe for you to use whichever can you like. I have a Thunderace swingarm I can fit to the chassis if people want to ensure it'd fit around a wider arm but still using the standard exhaust hangers and I'll ask them to make both types, and make jigs as well.
Obviously I'm going to be paying for the first two systems to be made so a show of hands would be good at this point!

Re: Big bore headers available soon
Hi Kayla thats a nice price for one of those but I personally am going for the 2-1-2 system when one is available but would prefer the tapered one but that all depends on how they fit and look I guess.
My bike maybe a dinosaur but it still has some bite & has a mighty roar.
Sometimes I wake up grumpy ........ but usually I let her sleep in

Hi Kayla
Very interesting indeed.
What material is that price for, stainless or mild steel?
Would you copy the shape of the std header but bigger dia or do you have something better to copy?
Cheers, Andy.

Re: Big bore headers available soon
I'll be getting both types done, a 2-1 and a 2-1-2, both straight diameter (ie no taper), if there's enough interest and no fannying about asking for different colours or tapers to match your bike
They're 18swg 304 stainless steel, the headers will be the next diameter up from standard (whatever that is, I can't remember) and will be designed to fit the bike like the standard parts, rather than be a tuned length as such just because it'd be an expensive PITA to provide different lengths for different people's engines. They'll be a direct replacement for the standard headers although bellypans might be an issue, but I haven't got one to fit to the bike and I imagine the fellas up at the exhaust place wouldn't fancy arsing about with one either
I dunno, budget £275 for the 2-1 and around £350 for a 2-1-2 (I'm just guessing this one, it'll probably change)
So, what's the general consensus?

Hi Kayla
I agree that you'd go round the twist if you tried to cater to every individuals requirements.
I didn't mean tapers or tuned lengths or such.
I just remembered reading somewhere that the sudden curve of the std header as it leaves the head was a restricting factor and some performance pipes improved this bend for beter flow.
Just thought it would be better to copy this if we could.
Cheers, Andy.
