Problem with Thunderace front wheel in r1 forks.

Post by PhatVR6 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 10:36 pm

I've fitted R1 front forks, and was advised to fit a Thunderace front wheel.

The one I bought didn't come with bearings. I ordered some new ones off a guy on ebay who specialises in such a thing, but the ones he's sent me are too small!

They are 42mm, whereas the bore in the wheel is more like 43.5mm.

Could anyone who's done this mod chime in?

I'm reluctant to order from the main dealsers, they want £17 a side.....

You can probably get what you need just by going over to a.... bearing shop.

Seriously, that's what I did with mine adapting the YZF750 rear wheel to the stock swingarm. Just measured what inside / outside / width dimensions I needed and went down and picked up a set. You can even get the nice sealed ones.

Hi Phat,

Are you using the R1 axel and do standard thunderace bearings fit? or have you come up with something else?

Cheers
Nick

B&C express are a good place to get pattern wheel bearings.... Tell what size you need and I'm sure they'll sort you out.

You know you need bearings for a Thunderace wheel though yes? I'm sure that would be enough information for them....... If not; measure the inside of the wheel & spindle and tell them the sizes.....

yeah, but the guy I got the other ones off says he's tried 3 different sources of information for the sizes, and they all say the ones he's sent me are right. told him I need 43.5mm OD, he says they don't exist in that size...

I'll just have to measure it all I guess.

the dealer won't tell me the sizes either, just the price....
