what is the frount fairing from?
is it a standard trx from, with the bottom half cut away?

I don't think so, the cutaway for the handlebars is too small. It looks like a Buell Firebolt fairing, if you look closely the headlights look like the projectors they use. That bike is bloody awful.
The problem, as I see it, is the more current looking seat units don't work well with the standard subframe or tank. The seat units need trimming so the bit that would ordinarily follow the lines of the lower subframe rails on the bike it's meant for is removed. That's what makes them look so not-right. Just my personal and subjective opinion, of course

Now, streetfightered TRXs are ok with a pointy, sticky-up seat as they (generally) don't have a fairing to take into consideration, but nailing a 'more modern' seat unit onto a mid 90s styled bike doesn't make your bike look 'more modern', it makes it look like you've nailed a pointy, sticky up seat unit onto it ( Honk's bike excepted). Personally and subjectively, of course.
Here endeth the lesson in good taste. Carry on

I have to agree it doesn't make sense to have everything else about the bike's design screaming "FZR" and then stick a brand new seat cowling on it. But some of the conversions in the members section have turned out very well - usually when they've adapted a completely new fairing. And of course the average rider under 30 (and a lot of the born agains who populate the nation's racetracks and Sunday-morning B-roads) weren't riding in the nineties, so they won't notice the disjunction anyway.
Edit - the other option is to cut and shut the subframe. Works if you don't carry pillions or lots of luggage. Or you can cut the s/f and make up a bolt-off version that fits a slimmer seat unit.
