Can anyone help cos I'm struggling!
I'm trying to fit an 03 - 05 R6 race tail unit to my TRX. This entails modifying the rear subframe but I'm not sure how best to do this. I can understand how the front fits with the R6 seat but I don't know how the back of the unit is meant to be supported.
Any advice appreciated

Put a search in for either an R1 seat or tail unit, That has been done with pics, may be the same as the R6 unit.

The back of the seat is supported by a single bolt in the middle.... It makes more sence if you look a a race seat unit. When I did mine I welded some pads to support the front mounts and then fabricated a smaller subframe to fix the single rear bolt to. It's a bastard fiddly job that envolved taking the seat unit on and off about three hundred times.... The only part of the original sub frame left is the bit the front seat pad sits on...

I think I found the website that "slow Codjer" was talking about and I posted the pictures that I found. The bloke was fitting an r1 rear to his TRX, but I would assume that it would be similar and these pistures may give you some assistance - bear in mind that it is only a single seat fairing so if you were thinking of a two-seater, more supports under the srear seat might be needed to ensure that the fairing does not come under undue stress and crack.
I am also in the process of doing a seat conversion with a 748 biposto unit and checked with my local bike mechanic (Gold Coast - Australia) and he said to make the frame a bolt-on item as opposed to a welded item to the frame. He said that it would be easier to pass engineer inspection and roadworthy. Don't know why, but I trust him.
Anyway, hope this helps

I quite like that 2002 tail fitted to the TRX, but I don't know why it looks 'righter' than the 1998-2001 one. Maybe because the front part follows the line of the underside of the tank better? Anyway, it looks like a lot of excess flab could be removed if you're planning on only having a single seat unit- look at all that steel nailed on the back of the standard subframe

Well, I'm comitted now!
Just cut off the original subframe and started lining things up for the new tail unit.
Spent most of today cutting and adjusting the race tail to take an OEM R6 undertray so that I can fit lights. What a job to get it spot on. Still, its done now and looks the dogs.
Sussed out what I need to do to fabricate the new subframe an booked a day off so I can get on with it without distractions.
