Pipes For Trixie

Hi all,
I've had a crack around the flange of one of my titanium Yoshi headers basically since I got my bike (was cracked when I got it, had it repaired, but it cracked again soon after) and about 3 weeks ago it finally completely let go . Finally, after several weeks of bike withdrawal (commuting in either a Discovery or a Corolla), I'm at a point where I can replace it with something else, and I'm very fortunately in a position where I have a contact in Japan who can buy locally and ship to me, but I have a dilemma, I've found both a Yoshi Titan system with carbon cans (current system has ally cans), and an Over system with carbon cans. Money's only a couple of hundred of our Aussie peso's either way, so that's not really a concern, but I'm really not sure which is going to give better bang for my buck? Or am I thinking about something that really doesn't warrant too much consideration?
On the one hand, if I buy the Yoshi's I'll then have spare bits in case of the unthinkable, and they're titanium so they look rather attractive (although possibly still susceptible to the same cracking issue that I've already had, but I think that was caused by the pipe having had a whack at some stage).
On the other hand, the Overs are very well made (but so are the Yoshi's), they're stainless so they shouldn't crack as easily, and having Over Racing on them gives them instant cred when attached to TRX .

Personally I don't think that there's going to be a noticeable difference in performance between them (feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong here), especially when I primarily commute to work on the bike with just the occasional weekend blat to keep me sane. At the end of the day, should I just be buying whichever's cheapest?
Sorry for the marathon read, but I thought I'd get the opinion of some others before I plonk down my hard earned either way.

At the end of the day, should I just be buying whichever's cheapest?

Hey,

my 2 cents, go for the cheapest (if that's gonna be your main goal). Otherwise, the OVER system is mainly for a REX with a career in/for trackdays mainly. You have to think about other pistons, carbs etc. etc.
I do think you won't notice a difference between the systems, only on track and certainly not for commuting.

Keeps you only with your own experience regarding the wrecked Yoshi system you have now.....

Yeah go the cheaper option if its only your daily ride and not a track toy, but if you like noise go the Over system

Buy em both and sell the set you don't want locally to recoup some costs The Over cans look like they have alloy end caps. Thats not in the catalogue that i have. Good luck.

The Over system looks pretty nice. Does it bolt up in place of the pillion peg hangers?

Not too sure it it bolts to, or replaces the pillion peg hangers. I've ended up with the Yoshi's though 'cause the Overs were bought with a buy-it-now, just got to wait for the damn things to turn up now and it's killing me with this awesome weather that we've been having here lately

Got the new-second hand Yoshi's today, a couple of minor dings and scratches, but no cracks! For those other Aussies that might be interested in getting a set of pipes out of Japan, the auction ended at 31500 yen (about $350 Aussie pesos), and they ended up costing me $700 express posted to my door. Not too bad in my book.
One big difference that I did notice though was the lack of springs on the slip joints of the new system, it only attaches at the head and the straps on the cans. Maybe mine was a common problem that was remedied later on? Will post pics later.

Scotty picked up a full Over system this year from City Motorcycle Wreckers in Moss st for $350 so i guess it depends on your definition of a bargain. They had a 2 into 1 system as well for the same money . Whats the weight of the Yoshi titanium system ?

I've got an even better idea; put the original headers on, buy my left hand Staintune (bargain at $280 for a virtually brand new pipe) and buy a new RH Staintune from a supplier. You'll save even more money and the bike will perform great anyway.

My old system with ally cans weighs about 7kgs, so I'd imagine this one's pretty much the same. $350 is very cheap Kev, wish I'd found an Over system for that! But at about half the price of a new set of staintunes, or within a carton of a set of megacycle cans (still no headers), I'm still happy with what I got.
Cro Biker - I don't have any std headers for it as I bought it with the Yoshi's already fitted. So by the time I find a decent set of std headers, give you $280 for one staintune, and then source another, I'd struggle to see too much change from my $700 anyway and I'd still have std headers with a set of cans.

The Yoshi's use 35mm id headers with an 'X' pipe at the merge the same as the Overs, and then jump up to 50mm link pipes into the cans. Overall the Yoshi's seem to be a well thought out system, I couldn't tell you what sort of power it makes with them on, sounds good though!
