HI GUYS, IM NEW TO THIS FORUM BUT NOT BIKES OR ANYTHING MECHANICAL AND FAST !!
QUESTION FOR YOU... IM GOING TO TURBO MY TRX AND AS I HAVE DONE A FEW VARIOUS VEHICLES IN MY TIME BUT NEVER A TWIN AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAVE ANY "DO'S" OR "DONT'S" OR LITTLE BITS OF WISDOM THEY CAN HELP WITH WOULD BE APPRICIATED.

oops sorry it was first thing this morning when i logged on....

sounds interesting !! what size of turbo were you thinking of ? ie what size of inducer? what bearings had you in mind,,who will you get to balance your shaft assembly

Do you mean turbo or supercharger?

Personally I reckon turbos on bikes are shit but each to their own

It´s being done here in Sweden....but the dude has a R1 as well wich he race on track so progress is slow!
I´m following that build thread and nothing strange has come up yet....nice size for everything....and there is a good "how to" online in how to pressurize the -98 R1 carbs so that one is just to follow.
If i hear of any problems i let you know!!

size of turbo is pretty much down to calculation of engine size and exhaust gas flow and as for balance im hoping when i buy one its not smoking or leaking oil as a second hand one will be on the cards first. till its proven ok

i have already joint the forum at bike-turbo.com and asked the same question about turboing a trx or any twin for that matter but i dint get any reply so i thought i might try my luck here at lease people are kind enough to offer some sort of reply but cheers for the links.

You´ll probably get some ideas in how he built the collector and so on....
Also, TRX makes a much better turbo/blower bike that VTR,RSV etc. as you have less gas travel and wierd pulses.....bla bla bla.....JUST DO IT!

There are a Swedish dude who are selling blower kits for the RSV RR (tuono etc for sure as well) and he is now doing up the kit for 1098R.....if i win the lottery.....

its not really building the thing thats not the problem its just that i was wondering if anybody had done one already just to give me the heads up on any little niggly things they had come across like the best place for the oil feed and best place to return it as the bike is a dry sump, and in particular what type of turbo they used. i have a few T2 turbos in the garage but i think they might even be to big for the engine. im not looking for massive power just maybe 100bhp mark. im more interested in the built than the ride.

has it got a 50mm front wheel ?? if it has its too big ,a 2lt BMW petrol has a 40mm wheel but the waste gate opens at about 12lb from memory,, try to get as late as poss front wheel from allied signal ,there is a world of difference in front wheels , and as you know the rears are made of inckanol (not sure if that's how you spell it ) i have done some experiments with these in jet planes and you have to use ceramic bearings they spool up a lot faster and are very tough,as you know its a floating bush that they use in most turbos but it needs loads of oil ,in the early days they tried normal ball bearings which are ok until you stop the engine then the soak back did the bearings in ,, your biggest problems are heat and bearings , but good luck
