True. But leave it sit there for a while (overnight) and...
No problem while you're working on it. Spill a bit, wipe what you can and when everything is tightened down, rinse off with water to get the stuff you may have missed.

To bleed brakes, I normally use a long length (around 10 foot I guess) of windscreen washer hose. Which is probably the same stuff as the goldfish bowl hose. Put it onto the bleed nipple, open the bleed nipple, and suck on the end to draw the fluid & air out. Of course it's wise to keep a close eye on where the fluid is relative to your mouth. You could do the same with a large syringe and the clear hose.
